Fun places to visit in the US

Not sure how long you are in the Seattle area, but Portland isn't that far, and Mulmomath Falls is a memorable sight. Not sure if they keep it open in winter though. Sounds like you might have a friend there and would enjoy the time driving down to talk:

It's also just outside Porrtland which is a cool town with great eateries and a young vibe. Also less panhandlers than Seattle and the fish market.

Only a few days in Seattle. Definitely wouldn’t have enough time to make the trip down to Portland.
So many ideas. Ha.

@NotHardUp1 Chicago's Michigan Avenue and the Gold Coast are not immune to the violence. As far as I know, no one has yet been killed--unlike the hundreds who have died in the black neighborhoods--but armed robbery and car-jackings are prevalent enough that business is suffering, and there's been a noticeable decline in visitors from the suburbs. I know three families with young children who over the last year have moved from the city to the North Shore. They had loved living in the city but had come to feel it had simply become too dangerous.

Don't believe lies about violence in Chicago, it's very specific neighborhoods that no one here has ever been to. Downtown Chicago you don't even see police walking around because their presence isn't needed, the punishment for crime is so severe that it only happens in rare, exceptionally desperate circumstances. This guide can help. :)

Sincerely,
A Chicago native

Sadly, one of my first cousins, my uncle's youngest daughter, lived in a condo with her husband overlooking prime real estate in Chicago, a park. I don't know it was Lincoln Park or another. They lived there for about two decades, but they left for the same reasons you just described, although they were older and had no children. Still, the change in the city has been so dramatic that they felt unsafe.

I was just referring to the murder rate. It remains aligned with poverty, as far as I'm understanding.

I've probably been there. When I read of a recent shooting near California Ave., I thought, "No! Not near that wonderful Mexican restaurant and the Salvation Army store with the great t-shirts!"

You'll be relieved to know I don't know ALL the bad neighborhoods. I'm unfamiliar with Austin.
