I thought this forum could use a little livening up so I'm restarting the "Funniest/Weirdest thing someone said to you when you came out to them" thread.

A girl in one of my classes, as part of the conversation said that gay men always dress well. That morning I was running late and had just thrown on some clothes and wasn't very stylish so I said to her, "I'm not dressed well," to which she replied, "Yeah but, you're not gay." The girl on the other side of me, whom I hadn't told yet either said, "Yeah he is." And the two girls proceeded to argue across me about whether or not I was gay.

Hmm I can't remember anything funny happening to me when coming out...maybe ackkward, like for example, when I'm telling the person i'm gay and I want the person to have a huge reaction and be all interested asking me question blah blah but I tell them and they're like "oh ok cool, that's normal" and then move on lol, I'm like :S.

A friend of mine asked to be present when I told his girlfriend. He predicted, "She'll say 'Really? Wow!'...and then, fifteen seconds later, she'll sort of nod and say 'Yeah, that makes sense. I can see that.'"

He nailed it. Precisely. :)

My weirdest experience was that EVERYONE WAS SURPRISED. Not a single damn friend or family member had any idea why I was so visibly depressed for like 3 years. Yeah that was fun.

Looking at a photo album of me throughout the years, they should have known. Jazz hands everywhere. Christ...

I had a lady I knew for a few years argue with me that I was too “straight acting” to like guys. I couldn’t get it through her head that not all masculine men are straight and all feminine men are gay or bi. I don’t know why she thought I would lie about it.

Probably when I told my best friend I was bi. He looked thoughtful for a second, and then asked, 'So that means instead of jumping the fence, you crashed into it instead?"

I dunno why, but it just cracked me up.

Landers, thanks for resurrecting this topic. It's one of my favorite threads in this forum.

For those who are interested, Landers started a similar thread 2 years ago that got hundreds of replies. It is really a fun read!

So many people I told had the same reaction, shocked until they actually thought about it.

I can't believe it went on this long, I thought it would have died long before it did.

I wish I had something funny and witty to put here, but no one was surprised when I came out.

Me: Hey Chris can I tell you something?
Chris: Yeah I guess
Me: ... I'm Bi ...
Chris: Ok
Me: ... Thats it?
Chris: Huh?
Me: I was expecting a different reaction ...
Chris: Dude I know rainbows straighter than you

Me- Hey, I kind of like guys
Girl- What! Seriously! Have you had sex with one yet? Top or bottom?
Me- Yea, no i havent. I dont know yet.
Girl- I cant picture you doing it.......when you do it your first time take a picture and send it to me then call me.
Me- (lol) Okay.
Girl- I'm serious!
Me- Oh, okay.....wait really?!

The 1st person + she's my best friend whom I came out to.

Me: You know, I like guys. I never have feelings for girls.
She: That's why I let you lay on my bed and talk to me for hours since we were 15. (We were 21 that time)
Me: Don't you feel surprise? I never acted gay, never try to get attached.
She: But you never thought of anything naughty with me. . Aw~!!! You must be very dry (referring to my love life). Go get yourself a boyfriend and tell me how good is a man to man kiss. Make sure is a wet one.

I have a friend who is the same way. After I came out to her and we talked for several hours she ended the conversation with "okay now you need to find boys to make out with so I can watch." I still can't go out with her without her pointing out guys she thinks I should make out with.

well in my case it wasn't really funny but my friend from MI thought it was!

So I went that day to my bestfriend's house that day, I had come out to a few others besides him. So I got to his place went into his room and lay on his bed playing psp while he talked on the phone with my friend from MI.

then the thought came to mind I logged into the msn from my psp and told her to hint him about my true nature.

so he finally gets it and comes to the room and asks

" J, would you mind if I jacked off in front of you? "
(he's 100% straight he just loves to mess with me pulling gay acts with other friends of ours Ex. humpin' eachothers legs. )
I dropped my jaw being flustered and I said " erm let me think about it."

then he said " too late! K's gonna do phone sex with meh! :D"

basically when I looked at my psp I saw he messages on msn she was having a fit. I was too flustered I began to have daydreams of him.

then I saw the psp again and she said

" oy! quit fappin to L's dick and start talking with me I need Ideas to turn him on!"

so I did, and soon enough I heard him moan from his mum's room.

then again on the psp I saw " if he only knew where the things coming out of my mouth were from... "

I reply " I know right?! He'd kill us both!"

sorry for typing too much but she made me do it again! >_O

I didn't really come out to my mom--she found out by snooping in my sister's mail.
When she confronted me about it (this was in the early 70's) and I admitted I was gay, the next thing out of her mouth was: "So are you going to go to Europe and get a sex change?" My sister and I started laughing hysterically. I then had to explain to her that just because I was into men sexually it did not mean that I wanted to be a woman. Jeez!

The weirdest response I got was:

*eating breakfast, sitting opposite a friend*
Me: I think you should know something..... *pause*... I'm gay.
Friend: Yeah, I know... I heard that one before.
Me: HUH!!?? *nearly chokes on food, speechless*
Friend: what...?

Apparently he was sitting behind me when I came out to another friend, girl, couple of months back. And then we ended up rambling about it so loudly that he could hear everything we were talking about, haha. But he didn't mention it up until that day.

I first realized I was gay when I was 13, and I had a "girlfriend". I was only 11 when we first started "dating", too young to understand relationships at all, and the only reason I became her boyfriend was because we were best friends and I pestered her until she told me what boy she liked. And I thought to myself "wow, a girl likes me, so I guess I have a girlfriend!"

Instead of saying "I love you", we used a secret code word; Chicken. Yes, Chicken. We would spend hours talking on the phone about whatever 11 and 12 year old kids talk about on the phone, and we'd just randomly drop the word chicken in the middle of our conversations.

As we continued this relationship more often she would cuddle with me and stuff, and I did NOT like it. It always made me feel so uncomfortable. All my family thought it was so adorable that I had a little girlfriend when i was that young so they kind of kept pushing me with it. Even though we were "dating" for 2 years we never kissed. We talked a little about sexuality, mostly because she liked anime and started reading fan fiction, and most of what she read was hypothetical relationships between male anime characters. When she talked about that stuff it made me curious, so after that I'd look up gay porn all the time... first I said "I guess Im bisexual because I have a girlfriend," and after that I considered the idea of being gay and how it sounded great... and then I considered the idea of being straight and how vagina sounded icky!

So one night on aim I IMed her to come out to her, the first person I'd ever come out to. it went something like this;

me:hey
she:hey
she:chicken
me:I have something important to tell you, ive been meaning to tell you for a while
she: oh, okay
me:well I think im gay...
me:and if theres any part of me thats still straight it's slowly dying inside of me
she: oh okay : )

and after that we talked on the phone and that went something like this;

she: you're gay.
me: yea, I know :)
she: you're gay.
me: yea, I know :)
she: you're gay.
me: yea, I know :)
she: you're gay.
me: yea, I know... it's not a big deal. :)

we remained good friends after that, and she came out to me as a lesbian maybe a month later. We were friends for maybe 5 or 6 years, then we kind of drifted off around 15 or 16 years old because we went to different high schools, had different sets of friends, and our interests totally diverged. Now we just talk a little bit online here and there.... I think she's had 2 or 3 girlfriends in that time period and currently has a boyfriend, and lucky me has only had the chance to flirt with a guy once ever! I'm planning on changing that quickly when I start going to NYU this fall! Other than that, coming out to people went well enough not to make them interesting events at all, which is a good thing.

Every once in a blue moon I think about that weird "relationship" and think "wow, that was incredibly stupid! Kids do such stupid things." And just few months ago, my mom asked me for the first time; "when you talked to amanda on the phone as a kid, why didn't you say anything besides the word chicken?"
