Some studies were done to see if devout prayer had similar effects and benefits as some of the eastern meditation techniques by mapping brain activity that occurs during each. Devout prayer produces the same brain activity as the known beneficial meditation methods does PLUS parts of the brain associated with communications are also active. What is being communicated and with whom is of course up to conjecture.

Could you please provide a link to this information?

I heard of such a study, but the conclusion was slightly different.

Perhaps but it ties into the theory that Humans are 'hard-wired' to believe in something greater and better than ourselves. Which is why if you did away with religion, Human society would just come up with something else to takes its place which would likely be just as bad or worse as its not religion itself that really causes the majority of the problems but the extremists and zealots who seek to use it as a means towards their goals.

^ I disagree with the idea that we lack of morals without religion, also the supposed "god gene" reinforces the idea that religion is made-up by humans.

I never implied you need religion to have morals only that you have a built in need for something like religion (i.e. a belief system) anything could do the job even atheism. We have plenty of immoral religions about and a fair share of secular morality systems. Both seem quite subject to the failings of Humanity.
