That's ignoring all the militant believers who turn out for anti-war marches, gather food for the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless, send medical help all over the world, help refugees of all sorts, and fight for laws recognizing gays as equal to everyone else . . .

and the militant atheists who roam internet fora to drop in and trash believers at every opportunity.
Kulindahr, I think you are credulous about some very silly ideas and it seems obvious to me that you do not train your well-developed everyday powers of observation on your own beliefs. That's my view of your ideas not of you. I'd not bother debating you if I thought I was only talking to myself. Your post here is hoping to catch us in an attack against believers themselves, hoping to find an ad hominem, so that there would be a reason not to contend with the arguments that atheists actually make about your beliefs.

For my own part I am always glad to enter the fray with theists on any question of philosophy. On days when you would celebrate a special occasion within your religion like Christmas or Easter, I might add what I learn from those occasions but I am generally disposed to see theists celebrate those days without comment. Unless of course the celebration (or at least the thread) is used by theists as an occasion to say ridiculous things about atheism. That's not the militant trashing of believers.

Did we catch this one?

Actually, we didn't get our Arabic numerals from muslims. We got them from Arabs. Looooong before islam was invented.

The same goes for all those instances when people want to 'prove' that islam is a highly intellectual faith by stating that 'the muslims' preserved the wisdom of Antiquity. No no no, the muslims didn't. The Arabs did that, before islam came along. Every society that ever adopted a monotheism regressed!

Fibonacci popularised 'arabic numerals' in Europe, prior to that Europeans used latin numerals. He got it from the western Arabs in north Africa, which ultimately came from Persia and muslims translating works that came from the Indian subcontinent. Indic numerals are probably the ancestor of modern (western) arabic numerals.
