Where's the representative of the Religious Right in the U.S.? They're worse than either of those three!

(Especially now that Rome has stopped playing the game of funding science but only what they wanted to hear.)

They got the guy on the right wrong -- that looks just exactly like the marble doorknobs in the old house I lived in for a while in St. Louis!

And I think the second one is actually a juicer.
Windex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotflmao:

The sad thing is, the investigator was later hounded by angry catholics who use the blasphemy laws against him. He's currently in Finland with the team who helped him discover the leak.

WTF -- India has blasphemy laws?

So much for calling it a free country......

It inherited the British Colonial law during the days of the Raj. The Queen's parents were the last Emperor and Empress of India before it (India) gained independence and joined the British Commonwealth.

There is good reason, I'm sad to say, for making a comparison between insulting another's religion in India, and shouting "fire" in a crowded theater. India's history of communalism and riot, brewed in such a dense population, exacerbated by a bad economy and poor education, has led to more than a few pogroms. Institutions of a mature democracy allow free speech to flourish, and lacking them, people die over words.

In the past, I think limitations on free speech were justified simply in the name of saving lives in India.

But it appears to me (as an amateur observer) like it's probably time to retire the remaining prohibitions. The abuses and repression that blasphemy laws allowed should now go. No doubt there are still parts of India, like Bihar, which will inevitably suffer from the modernization: people will die in the name of free speech.

Reminds me of what one aunt used to say about messes: clean it up now, or it will come back to haunt you.

So these people protected them from endangering their health and in return they get shunned. What idiots, but then so few religious people are intelligent.
