Gifs should work, but when uploading to this site there is a size limit (1.43MB), so yours must be larger than that and that is why you're having trouble with them.

If they're too big to upload directly from your computer (over 1.43MB), you can also post the link to the site they're on. Clicking the yellow box with the mountains, in the toolbar directly above the post window, will give you Image tags.
IMG] Paste the link between the two middle ][, and the gif will show up in your post.
