The same way that religions "use science" to justify whatever would fit their own agenda.
In any case, bloodletting, lobotomy, castration and extermination were not scientific, "modern science" practices, but pseudoscientific "protomedical" ones or purely surgical procedures with no general theoretical scientific backing, but political, pseudointelectual, farcical or, surprise, religious one: in short, strongly dogmatic, while science does not keep believing in the same error for centuries... reason why "modern" science is so damn young (giving it three centuries is being very generous)... and probably will perish that way.
