Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Another dodge! Yes, every atheist can imagine a god existing beyond time and without beginning. We're still waiting for an answer as to why those same attributes couldn't just apply to the universe itself. Still crickets from those with the theist hypothesis.

It's not a dodge, it's basic sense. By definition, a Creator has to be self-generating.

Why the universe isn't self-generating is the atheist's problem. The believer understands that the universe itself is evidence that there's a Creator.

I nominate this for most highly amusing areligious internet pic:

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Cool, they actually spelled "ark" correctly. Not even "I read a book one time but can't remember the name" MikeyLove, with the divine guidance of God, and Jesus literally at his side, can get that right.

Noah's Ark - the boat.
Noah's Arc - god's sign (a rainbow) that his highly unpleasant murderous rampage of drownings was over.

Imagine the in-breeding that followed!

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I know this meme has a child in it, but it really cuts to what bothers me the most about those who say that they follow Christ

Clearly the pope has been buying those treasures to allow as many of the vendors as possible to be perfect and have treasure in heaven.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

We know that GOD cannot create himself, and that he has always existed through all eternity, even before the Big Bang, he is PURE SPIRIT. Though we cannot see him, except in the form of His Son, the second person of the One GOD, the Trinity...we can know him through various means, as mentioned in many threads in this forum. The few means that we can know him, not just by Faith, but by way of deep Prayer, Meditation, and Contemplation. Another means of knowing GOD, is by way of experiencing his Divine Presence in our Lives.

I understand that when you say "we" you mean you and like minded people. So I'm not going to bother you about that.

I do have a question though. Only because I've seen you post about your religion before and I know that you're sincere. My question is about the holy trinity.

The way I understand it. There's God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God is Jesus, but God is above Jesus. Jesus is the Holy Ghost, but Jesus is above the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is both God and Jesus, but it's below both God and Jesus.

Now, saying that's all true, or at least that all three are the same entity, God sent himself down as Jesus with the purpose of being crucificed for the sins of man. Then, while being crucified, Jesus says "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do" to himself, God.

So to me, none of that makes any sense. I can look at it and say that it's all crazy and none of it is true. Maybe this is a strawman arguement, but I tried my best with the knowledge that I have about the bible.

My question is, how do you justify this? Or do you even have to? What have you expereinced in your life that has made you feel different?

Or am I just completely off base with my understanding?

My mom talks to herself too. She also keeps the radio on all the time "for company."

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I think that might be tenets of satanism. Or at least LaVeyan satanism. The idea of killing god in your mind, even though you don't believe he even exists.

I'll probably get called out by a hardcore satanist now for not knowing what I'm talking about.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I didn't know that. But he can't even use that as an excuse because he was referring directly to the boat which was apparently found on a mountain in Turkey.

Actually there's one interesting find over there, but at the last I knew there was nothing to distinguish between it being a boat or a large wooden building.

IIRC, Ratzinger, back when he was head of the Inquisition, was one of those who objected to John Paul I selling some Vatican treasures to pay the bills.

It makes perfect sense, but you're all over the place with it. Here's something that works as a key:

As an ancient Creed puts it:

The Father is God, the Son is God, the Spirit is God;
The Father is not the Son, nor the Spirit;
The Son is not the Father, nor the Spirit;
the Spirit is not the Father, nor the Son.

It's easy enough to grasp, as mathematical operations:

As God, 1 * 1 * 1 = 1
As Persons, 1 + 1 + 1 = 3.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

First off, the three persons of The Holy Trinity are equal to each other. Secondly, the easiest way to explain the Trinity is to find 3 long waxed candle wicks and hold them together, then light the top....How many flames are there? Now pull them apart and tell me how many flames there are. Bring them back together, and how many flames are there? The three leaf clover doesn't do justice to the easiest explanation of the Trinity. For great effects...do the wick experiment with all lights out and at night.

That's an interesting one!

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

The last I knew there was nothing to distinguish it from a rock, either.

No, it's definitely wood, though they've recovered some that shows early signs of petrification.

There are at least three different claims to being the Ark. One was disproven by NASA; I forget the details. Another is totally the wrong shape -- a craft of its shape and dimensions wouldn't have lasted half a day on the supposed world-wide 'ocean' even if it had been "calm". There are reports it's actually of wood, but there's dispute on the dating... which is irrelevant anyway; a boat that wouldn't last the forty days and more doesn't qualify.

Someone ventured the notion that the wrong-shaped one was an Ark shrine built by unknown monks, who wouldn't have known the proper shape or size.

As for the remaining one... since there's no evidence for a global flood, and since the Bible doesn't actually say that, if it's really a boat, there's the interesting question of how a local/regional flood tossed it that high.

BTW -- sorry, Mikey, but even if that one really is a boat, there's nothing to make us believe it's Noah's, or even that it ever floated anywhere. Don't fall into the trap of thinking it's so because it would be nice if it were.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I totally love that one.

It reminds me, there's a thread everyone should visit, over in CE & P, title something like "Show this to your conservative friends". A college student who got a leave of absence to study the matter does a superb presentation on what the Bible has to say about homosexuality. The true beauty is that he does it from basically conservative principles.

Math. That graphic amounts to
  1. A=B
  2. A=C
  3. A=D
  4. B≠C
  5. C≠D
  6. D≠B

From line 3 we know that A=D. Thus line 5 can be rewritten as C≠A. And now line 2 becomes irreconcilable. I think this is called "Woo woo Mathematics."

Your little list is irrelevant. The graphic demonstrates that under different operations, different conditions apply. That's quite common in math.

And in science, you don't "disprove" something by trying to force your preferred form of math on it, you take the data and find math that works.

The diagram comes from the data in the Bible. The math is chosen to fit the data.

In short, you're being non-scientific in your approach. I think this is called "irrational".

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

The stories of men are considered "Data".

Who is avoiding science again?

I thought in your abortion thread you claimed I was finding information to support my conclusion yet here you do the exact same thing. You find some unverified unproven information and PRODUCE mathematical data to support it.

There is a symbol for your people

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

so science isn't about disproving unverifiable claims but is about finding "math" that proves the "data" in the bible to be true?

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Ahh yes. Data. Apparently Kulindahr you missed this one earlier in the thread:

For theology, the Bible is data.

No, you weren't using any information at all -- you were invoking metaphysics.

"Unverified unproven information". Odd -- the question was what the Bible had to say about the Trinity. That presupposed that the Bible is the relevant data set. I showed what the Bible says, and further showed that it can be mathematically modeled.
