Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

When your religion doesn't seem to be what you think it is.

Sorry folks...

I used the Insert Image tool in the tool bar... There's a thing about if an attachment not being used within a time limit that it gets removed... ?

I'll try it again:

Mikey would probably have apoplexy from that one.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

I saw that happen once. It didn't go over too well.

I saw it with a cop once -- for some reason he demanded to search this guy's wallet. When he handed it back, the guy's pair of condoms had been replaced with a Jesus tract.

I wanted to yell at the cop for being an idiot Christian, and just plain an idiot.

Just because...

To pic a nit with your last one, star warrior, shouldn't that be "the Buddha"? It is, after all, a title.

Some languages don't have definite articles. It is neither here nor there whether Buddha or The Buddha would be the correct translation from the original.

BTW, should "God" be "The God" instead? It's a title rather than his own name Yahweh/Jehovah isn't it?

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Not visual, but I have been always amazed by the unexpected literary quality of the original French text:

« Aujourd’hui, jour de Pâques en l’Année sainte,
Ici, dans l’insigne Basilique de Notre-Dame de Paris,
J’accuse l’Église Catholique Universelle du détournement mortel de nos forces vives en faveur d’un ciel vide ;
J’accuse
l’Église Catholique d’escroquerie ;
J’accuse

And probably Kul will also find food for his beloved [STRIKE]Byzantine[/STRIKE] pointless refutations there.

In Greek "God" does have the definite article. Anglo-Saxon usage had a linguistic peculiarity where unique nouns didn't get it -- an interesting quirk -- and we inherited that usage.

I asked because I've always heard it as "the Buddha", and in comparative religion it was emphasized it isn't a name, and in fact since there are many buddhas, the definite article is used to distinguish the most eminent one of the age. Interestingly, it's parallel to "antichrist" in the New Testament: there are many antichrists, but there is The Antichrist.

BTW, I like the cartoon -- it's the way most Christians would react if they actually met Him (especially the fundies).

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

Like Jesus the Christ?

Actually, yes. It almost always occurs that way in the Greek. Early English translations did it that way, too, but then someone got linguistically lazy or ignorant (or both) and turned it into a name. I used to drive people in Bible studies crazy when, translating out loud from the Greek, I used that "the".
