I've always thought...those who hold on to the belief that the world is less than 7,000 years old...and the SCIENCE is there to show that somethings are hundreds of millions of years old with analysis via nuclear physics, sedimentary studies, etc. - aren't they suggesting, then, that God is lying to us?

Yes, they are -- there's no avoiding it. They may answer, "No, He's testing us". But God would never employ a "test" that involved showing falsehood.

In many ways, it was confidence in God's faithfulness, the faith that He would have laws for His universe that would be reliable and unchanging, as He is, that drove many early great minds to go beyond the answer "God did it" to ask "How?" Now the results of that great study are denied by many "evangelicals", in contradiction of that sound principle: if the world is not, as science shows, billions of years old, then God is not faithful at all.

:rotflmao:

I still have a tee-shirt from a Campus Crusade for Christ conference that has "God@heaven.com" on it.

At least they got the .com part right as opposed to .org or even dare to hope .edu.

I met a Republican who swore Jesus looked like this:

holy-face3.jpg

That's the face you get if you work with what's on the Shroud of Turin. He asserted it was "scientific fact" that it was Jesus' face.

IMO everyone back then was buried in this way. To assume it's Jesus would be the same as digging up any grave 2,000 years from now and assuming it's JFK 's.

Not even close -- one would have to be digging up a grave preserved and revered as being that of JFK.

Personally, I've leaned toward the ancient Eastern Orthodox depictions, which have Him dark-skinned and definitely Semitic. They had a mix of ethnicities running around far more than in the West, and had no reason to misrepresent His actual appearance.
