That may be true but secular institutions that cover up child abuse are actually punished by the law and held accountable for their actions. Sandusky is in prison. Why aren't these priests?

Teachers and police also claim to be responsible for guiding society toward decent and ethical behaviour and those who betray that trust are beneath contempt and the actions of those individuals rightly brings scrutiny on the conduct and mandate of the organisations themselves.

But only the priesthood claims to be responsible for guiding society toward decent and ethical behaviour whilst enjoying the endorsement of a divine creator of all existence. They intend to be taken more seriously than either teachers or police, and they should be judged accordingly.
