It's ironic that those who most loudly assert their allegiance to Christ are the ones campaigning to make this country a social Darwinistic experiment. I wonder if they know that buying real estate with the intent of keeping it permanently is another thing called "an abomination"?

It would seem to me that god could create a holy book that doesn't lend itself to so much confusion and mystery; something with a truth that is not moot.

It wouldn't matter how rigorous and logical a holy book was, humans would find ways to twist it.

Good Friday -- isn't that the day Jesus died? I don't think that was Good Friday for him. I don't see him up there going, 'Wooo! Party! Thank Dad, it's Friday!'

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

He presumes that a deity would treat His creatures like toy figurines, without any will or choice of their own.

Then you presume incorrectly, as the quote attributed to Epicurus is unlike his other writing, and it is more probable to attributable it to skeptic philosphers instead. Epicurus says that if gods exist they wouldn't be bothered by us nor want anything from us, neither prayer, sacrifice, or our adulation.

That description applies exactly to the creator described in christian mythology of the divine.

Free will is a relevant concept when deciding between two or more congenial, worthy, fulfilling, choices. Free will is not relevant if a choice existed, say, between infinite fulfilment, security, insight, joy, and contentment on one hand, and despair, decay, and oblivion on the other.
