If you don't mind the look and aren't handcrafting-challenged - IKEA has served generations of students without money with decent cheap furniture.

I'd say IKEA as well.

Put good money into a bed though. Choose the right mattress. Something firm that can take lots of fun.

The rest of the furniture can be fleamarket finds and who cares if it matches anything.

Another vote for IKEA if there's a store in your area. The IKEA online catalogue has models and prices.

I agree. One thing you don't want to skimp on is your mattress.

Not much of a shopper? What?

Seriously, take an off work day, a good pair of shoes and find what your looking for.
Prices can vary widely from store to store and really the only way to know is to go store to store. Have your price point set before you go in and it will make the process a lot more speedy. Good luck.

Well, after separating and then divorcing my ex, I was butt ass poor--so, I made due with with what I could--and checked out craigslist (for furniture) :D

Be careful with Ikea, they sell a lot of break apart furniture that a Western movie set would be jealous of.

Did you try out the mattress by jumping up and down on it for 22 minutes?

:grrr:

i've moved seven times in the last five years and craigslist is much better than any retail outlet.

don't buy from other people, get it from wharehouse sellers that list on cragislist because it's always half the cost of any retail outlet.

As I noted in your other recent post.

Lucky couch.

Good advice....

Ikea and Pottery Barn...however, shipping costs are a concern if you don't have one locally and you have to assemlbe the stuff.

Craigslist is too much work especially if you are busy with that Airbus....and you have to go to other people's lurid homes and play let's make a deal with some redneck over a dinning room table missing one leg.

Ashley stores are in my area - do you have one of those "room store" places where you go in and buy the entire grouping right down to the lamps and throw pillows? I know that will cause the "gay gasp" in some circles, but it's good when you need to fill a room fast and affordably.

So how is the sleep on the new mattress?

Nothing like breaking in a new bed.
