Gallup Poll shows pro-lifers at 51% for first time [MERGED]

For those of us trying to figure out what this is about, an article in yesterday's New York Times adds another piece to the puzzle, I think. Notice gay rights have been pushed to the back burner along with abortion rights (and transparency). This by a President who'd supposedly been the "most liberal" in the Senate -- as I pointed out back then, Obama is not a principled man so the "most liberal" description was more smoke and mirrors from what he'd calculatedly attached his name to rather than anything he'd taken action on over time, and was therefore not revealing of what he'd do as President.

Nuance Is a Fine Word Until It’s Pronounced Flip-Flop

... It is a tactic Mr. Obama has employed repeatedly as president, as he has recalibrated his approach to positions on any number of issues. He told Planned Parenthood that his first act as president would be to sign an abortion rights bill into law; now he says it is “not my highest legislative priority.” He promised gay rights advocates that he would work for the repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, but he has pushed action into the future. A proponent of transparency, he released previously classified memos describing the CIA's harshinterrogation techniques. But then he moved to block the release of photos showing abuse of detainees — a 180-degree turn from his administration’s previous position.

I would consider myself VERY pro-life, but also to be in support of adequate education and support with regards to pre-natal care. I believe that abortion exists because ignorance exists. If people were taught at an early age the causes and efects related to their actions, they might be more circumspect in their sexual proclivities and perhaps abortions would not be so in demand.

On the other hand, where rape is involved, then why cannot the embryo simply be transferred to the womb of a loving woman who cannot bear her own children. Why does the child have to die simply because the victim of a crime cannot bear to live with the results of that crime? Tramsfer the embryo or fetus to someone who will care for the child. Or carry the child to term and put it up for adoption. I fail to see why murder has to be an option at all even after a rape.

I do not believe that there should be even a discussion of a woman's "right" to kill another human being...I am glad that the nation is starting to come around to my point of view on this.

Maybe one day we can finally reverse Roe v Wade and abortion on demand will become a thing of the past and people will actually have to live with the consequences of the decisions they make.

That is simply not possible. Maybe someday it will.

It's not just a baby in there, there are other structures in the womb vital to the embryo's survival which make removal impossible.

Things have to be caught early enough, before attachment to the womb.

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to catch it before then. The idea of a host mother is a sound one -- but only if you plan to get pregnant. Abortion being usually for the unplanned, however ideal the notion might seem, it just isn't practical.

Unfortunately, a majority of pro-lifers still think that to have dominion over the earth means to rape it.

Fortunately, that's changing fast.
I really think that's an oversimplification.Certainly some Christian know nothings feel that way.....but I hardly believe the majority of pro lifer supported(though you do add things are changing fast) trashing the planet for its resources.

I know you've truly thought about the morality of abortion rights in a reasonable, logical, principled manner.I know you've stated the best knd of realistic, mutually acceptable compromise is to limit the right to abort an unwanted pregnancy until there is definitive proof of some level of consciousness,as in identifiable brain wave patterns.I can support that notion...I know and appreciate all of the wonderful work you've done in helping give an innocent life a real chance.

But I just know the words you used will be manipulated and propagandized by the pro-abortion rights crowd. They can afford to be so-called"pro-choice",with little or absolutely NO restriction.Their mothers chose to let them live.
