I suppose the statements speak for themselves:

Barack Obama on gay adoption:

“But we also have to do more to support and strengthen LGBT families. Because equality in relationship, family, and adoption rights is not some abstract principle; it’s about whether millions of LGBT Americans can finally live lives marked by dignity and freedom. That’s why we have to repeal laws like the Defense of Marriage Act. That’s why we have to eliminate discrimination against LGBT families. And that’s why we have to extend equal treatment in our family and adoption laws.

John McCain on gay adoption:

Q: President Bush believes that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt children. Do you agree with that?

Mr. McCain: I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no I don’t believe in gay adoption.

Q: Even if the alternative is the kid staying in an orphanage, or not having parents.

Mr. McCain: I encourage adoption and I encourage the opportunities for people to adopt children I encourage the process being less complicated so they can adopt as quickly as possible. And Cindy and I are proud of being adoptive parents.

Q: But your concern would be that the couple should a traditional couple

Mr. McCain: Yes.

Re: Gay adoption: McCain says "No" Obama says "Yes

i know!, this and Palin's scarily gun-ho attitude about war with Russia. What do people think of the survival of any kind of pro-America sentiment around the world in the event of another Republican Government? I'm from Australia, and perhaps whilst not the best sample group, among people at my uni, America is fast becoming a dirty word.

Re: Gay adoption: McCain says "No" Obama says "Yes

I don't expect any major change soon.

It's good to know that Obama thinks gays should adopt, but it's going to take a couple of decades for full equality under the law.

Re: Gay adoption: McCain says "No" Obama says "Yes

Gay couples and gay singles have been able to adopt for many years in some places and there social and support networks for gay fathers. So it's only a question of time.

Electing McCain/Palin could, however, delay that, if not by direct legislation then by appointing more anti-gay Supreme Court judges, who would support banning gay adoptions for a generation, if not everywhere then in those backwards States that still want to ban it.

Re: Gay adoption: McCain says "No" Obama says "Yes

Forgive me for going down this all-or-nothing territory, but I do think it is weird that a gay person would believe gay parents are a danger to children. To give some context, I also have massive problems with liberals who believe black children should only be placed with black adoptive parents. (At the same time, however, I entertain the idea of a market for adopted children...so sue me. Markets markets everywhere!).

Given a bottom-up approach to social relations, more gay adoption can only result in more acceptance.

Also, importantly, read this, Palin's not all bad:

Re: Gay adoption: McCain says "No" Obama says "Yes

As a side issue, the recent court ruling that Florida's Constitutional ban on gay adoption is, err. . unconstitutional is a red herring that flew in under the radar of gays statewide. Gay adoption is a hot-button issue with evangelicals, and the timing of this decision is certainly no accident. It's designed to start a furor among evangelicals and bring them out to the Florida polls in record numbers. Sort of "reverse pandering" if you will.

The decision will (sadly) have the effect of cinching Florida for McCain. Especially in light of the candidates' stances with which we're all so familiar in this very thread.

Re: Gay adoption: McCain says "No" Obama says "Yes

People have been saying this since the start of the presidential race.
