I’m guessing that gay non-white female conservatives might find it easier to gain your tolerance.

I dunno, I'd think it would depend on what they were opining on & what they meant by conservative. ".....but but but, I'm one of the good ones, I'm not like other girls" just oozes off some people.

karabulut, i don't think you have any idea what i'm talking about when I refer to "name-calling.." I've given up on this, though.. What's funny is that the poll says one thing - and the voices in this forum say something else altogether, which is "shut up, and keep your opinions to yourself.." No one here knows ANY thing about me, but many have drawn the most incredible conclusions.. It's just so sad that so many have become so cynical and full of hate

^Another example of ad hominem that impairs discussions. And another example of the issue that I pointed out earlier. And equally important, it's a tactic that avoids the discussion and the questions asked earlier. There's little to be gained when, instead of discussing the contents of a discussion when we find ourselves with statements that imply that, "The problem is everyone else- they're cynical and full of hate" or "The problem is you- you don't have any idea what I'm talking about".

If you have an opinion that there has been name-calling and that has been directed toward you, then cite that evidence or Post Report it. As opinterph pointed out, it is difficult for us to find evidence that you've been treated unfairly because there's not many posts under your username for us to look at in the 10 years prior to this thread.

What I'm reading as a consistent theme in this thread is that a) conservatives shouldn't be painted with a broad brush because not all conservatives are alike and within the conservative moment there are different viewpoints and interests and b) JUB members would like to hear conservative opinion and viewpoints but too often, the problem is not the conservative viewpoint, it's the conservative member expressing the viewpoint.

rara avis.

I will let you know when I find one how it goes.

If you won't play what can you hope for? You posed a leading question then ignored everything that came after, why should anyone take you seriously?

It is easier to play the victim than to engage in an intellectually honest discussion. It is what is stoking the rage among the Trump base these days and a lot of them don't want to give it up.

The purpose of these discussions in the forum isn't winning or losing. It's to engage in a discussion, learn, inform and challenge each other's opinions and pre-conceptions.

On the other hand, if members aren't engaging in discussion, being civil, and bringing your best game to the discussion, then everyone loses.

I think Pete sums up this thread pretty well:

It would actually be a nice thing if some conservative here using reasonable, thoughtfully presented points at least could make those differing reflect and realize there's at least a point to be made. But if we're demonized, treated as evil, sinister socialists out to destroy America... it stands that we're not going to want to play that game very long. And I'm not hateful or condescending towards people not in the big cities as rubes and idiots who don't deserve to be treated with respect and civility just reflexively... those here on the right may well not trust or like us but it goes both ways when they constantly act the aggrieved snowflake, offended by anything, they accuse us to be. I'm sorry but I'm not ripping into your "faith" when you say you can't comply with laws that offend your moral beliefs. Your "morality" cannot deny basic rights to others... equality under the law applies to everyone, not just conservative Christians. Even the LGBT community. Even the nonbeliever. Even the communities of color.
