Gay Bar in Ft. Worth, Texas Raided

My guess is that the cops didn't realize that it was the anniversary of Stonewall or they would have chosen another day to be stupid. Now, they have created a ready-made public relations fiasco.

And of course they're lying about what happened, to make themselves look justified.

And to those who want the police chief to conduct an investigation, all you have to do is read the reports to see he's already lying to cover for his officers.

... wait..... what?!

Rural Indiana, where people are proud that "there's not a nigger, chink, wop, dago, gook, or injun fer a hunnert miles".

Sounds like a standard TABC raid with homophobic cops.

I bet if it were a TABC raid with all gay officers this wouldn't be an issue.

News article says they raided other bars that night as well. Their measure of force should be compared to the other bars. Maybe they were all just a bunch of jerks with badges and the gay thing was just a touchy subject on that day.

Just saying...look at all sides...

I've been posting about this over in CE&P. There I tell about my own dismay at these events in my own city. The short version is that I don't believe the police account. I explain why and cite a number of other sources in that thread. (It's a thread about events on Gay Pride weekend. Other places have a parade; we have a bar raid and a protest.)

I guess when you said lynching I was thinking of an actual lynching and that your friend knew about murders in the area but nothing was being done.

I did mean an actual lynching -- but stopping just shorting of killing. You know, the more civilized stuff like breaking arms and legs, bashing in rib cages, driving a truck into a house, burning down the garage, shooting the dog -- that sort of thing.

And nothing gets done because the system knows that cops don't lie, so when the deputy who went to "check things out" participated, but reported that there was an accident resulting in severe injuries and a fire in the garage, that's what the system believes.

It's just like the "accidents" people have out in the woods, around here.

Responding to a barrage of criticism leveled against members of El Paso City Council for its decision last week to provide domestic partner benefits, Lisa Turner stands up.

Turner: "I will not stand silent"

transcribed by NPT Staff

"This is a civil rights issue. I will not stand silent while people preach hate." -- Lisa Turner, who went to the mic during public comment after a furor erupted over the City Council decision to provide domestic partner benefits.

This is so sad it makes me want to cry. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it until now. Clearly there is still a long way to go, but it's a road worth walking.

I was so upset when I heard about this back in June.

I hope the pigs that did this get what they deserve.

Being tex-ass, be happy they (the cops) didn't bring in machine guns and recreate the Valentine's Day Massacre.....

The first sentence of this statement essentially IS the problem. What point were you trying to make here?
