Gay Bars For Over-30's

there are only GAY BARS and REGULAR BARS

STRAIGHT bars DO NOT exist...

...and like i've stated before, people who go to GAY BARS are all part of the "gay bar scene". They are all either the really skinny "twink" type or they are the ragged hair abercrombie type with a nice build. They all get drunk and dance slutty with no shirt on and shake their ass like a black chick in a Nelly Video. But not all gay guys are into that. You get what im saying?
NOT ALL GAY GUYS GO OUT TO GAY BARS. As a matter of fact a lot of gay guys go to regular bars just to avoid the lame bitchiness that goes on in gay bars. If your not part of the scene, then your not going to like it and chances are you arent going to fit in.

I have no idea what you mean by this! I'm not into all the "gay bar" scene with the bitchyness and shirts off, but there are plenty of places in my city (Atlanta) that just cater to gays without all the pretentiousness that you speak of. You have to inform yourself and not go into any of these places with a pre-concieved notion and you will find what just might turn out to be the man of your dreams!

^^ aww....you dont like Tiger heat? :(

I went to Tiger Heat with Jockboy here , and I had a blast.

We'll be going again in January, and I'm bringing my little brother along (and given JB permission to shag him)

anyway... I can go to just about anywhere, but I'm more into hanging out with men my own age.

Call me kooky.

oh you don't go to tiger heat for conversation, but it's got a big dance floor and as long as you go with friends, you'll have fun.

My only problem with Tiger Heat now, honestly, is that there's WAY too many straight people there.

It's kinda annoying.

Not sure what planet you live on.

EVery city I've been to has plenty of bars that cater to older men.

In Toronto there's about 7.

In LA there are about 20 I can think of.

In Sydney, I found a place called the Phoenix and a place called.. um... I forget.. it was further up the Oxford Street strip.

There's a dance bar I go to a lot in LA called MJ's which has a crowd in their 30s. Still a blast and they're packed all the time.

Planet Earth actually.

Like I said, I live in a [smallish] city in far north Australia, NOT Sydney or LA, SF or Miami.
Every city you've been in, is not the whole world.

Meh.

We were in a small town shooting Alumni Weekend 5: Australia in November in Queensland, and the one gay bar I found had older guys who were all pretty nice.

Mind you, having an American walk in is usually a good ice breaker.

And it could be you're just not the bar type. I never, ever got completely 100% comfortable with gay or straight bars - talking over the noise, the smoke and anxiousness of talking to strangers. I've pretty well quit going to both in the past five years.

I guess the bars I felt most comfortable in were small, private-club straight bars (but gay-friendly) with a wide age range that catered to people in certain professions. I used to go to one in my late 20s and early 30s that was mostly restaurant people / journalists / hospital people / lawyers. The club probably had 500 members, and maybe 150 regulars. You had your own key. After that, walking into a club where I knew no one always felt weird.

oh pfft yourself.

Far be it from me to expect to see a majority of gay people in a gay bar.

tiger Heat is now about 85% straight people, and trust me, they're not all "being open minded". I've heard quite a few homophobic comments from both the girls and guys there.

I've had more than one straight girl ask bizarre and demeaning questions (so, like.. what's it like to you know... giggle.. do it in the butt?) and seen a few of the straight guys making faces at the few gay guys left in there.

First I must be spoiled.
While coming to terms with being gay there were several gay bars That I would go to.

While at the Paradise in Cambridge the age mix was all over the scale but a lot were college age but then again Cambridge/Boston is loaded with colleges. My first was the 47centeral in lynn. age range was full scale but heavier on the 30+ 40+++.
another was I think on stuart st first flr of a hotel. 30+ professional

as far as being out of shape. I would have to say no matter where you go. there is always going to be super bods. so that's life. be who you are .

There's lots of gay bars for guys over 30, and 40, and 50.... Most of them are the neighborhood type of bars, some with small dance floors, pool tables, and quite a mix of ages.

They are very comfortable to hang out in.

well, I'm 38 and I still have a blast in bars.. not often, but when I'm in the mood to get naughty.

I never pick up in bars, but I'll have fun and meet people and have a little drunken fun.

just about anything is fun in moderation.

Except hanging out with boring people.

It's interesting. I've lived in Texas and in San Francisco (for the last 5 years) and traveled significantly to LA, NY, Boston, Seattle, New Orleans and more since I was 22 (which is 17 years ago - yes I am 39). The only times I've felt a little like I was a fish out of water is when a bar would have an 18+ night. And that feeling has only been recently. I'm not sure exactly how bars might be different in Australia but just go and be confident.

I suppose it's a truism.

Threads on almost any topic will bring out the most judgemental ones.

man. some people really need to cut back on the caffine.

Sorry, but you know what? I enjoy having some fun at a bar every now and then. I see friends, talk about stupid things, flirt with the odd stranger and have a good time. I might even dance.

Nobody gets hurt and nobody gets in trouble. I don't do it much, but it's always a bit of harmless fun.

this picture you paint of enraged, drunken people staggering around is kinda silly. Obvious that you've seldom been to a bar or even get out much.

you sure like throwing about those judgements yourself...

Let's see.. people who go to bars are smelly, enraged drunks, drag queens and leather men are not people you approve of, my membership in a gay motorcycle club is worthless. you seem to call people "clowns" an awful lot.

You must be a barrell of laughs to hang out with.

(and although I dont' deny people the right to BE boring, I was merely pointing out that hanging out with boring people isn't fun. can you imagine HOW hanging out with boring people would be fun? would you like to enlighten us?)

The Townhouse is a hustler bar for men "of a certain age," which sort of explains the age disparity.[/quote

Perhaps for some men "of a certain age"; others go and meet friends, sing a the piano bar and actually enjoy each others' company, without the threat of a bore hitting on us. ;)
