I'm not sure I see the point. I thought beer was pretty well integrated into gay culture already.

(Newser) – A Mexican brewery has launched what it calls the first-ever beer aimed at gay drinkers, who it says have gotten the cold shoulder from brewers. “We're out in the market with great respect with the idea of offering a product directed to the gay-lesbian community that has been ignored for too long but is important and very demanding,” a rep for the distributor tells a Mexican news agency

I don't get it....I know, why don't we make a beer for people with blue eyes also!

Sounds fucking retarded and just an attempt to profit from the gay population.

Unless the profits of the beer have some go to a gay rights movement or something I can understand that but it still sounds like a dumb logic to me.

I'll stick with my Bud and Coors Light.

Beer!? Dear Lord! The gay men in my neck of the woods usually drink coolers or whiskey. Only older guys and lesbians drink beer!

Well I guess everyone just isn't as cool as you.

I thought only teen underage drinkers and women drank wine coolers.

Regional thing. It's funny how things progress. Since coolers are popular with women, a lot of men won't drink it because they don't want to come off as acting too fem. But for whatever reason, the younger generation here has got past that. So it's only the older guys who grew up in that closet generation who still hold on to it.

It's just the opposite here in Florida. Most beer drinkers are younger guys (20-somethings) because they can't afford cocktails. The lesbians never drink beer! God forbid! It's too fattening. They drink either wine or cocktails.

haha. See what I mean? It's so funny how different communities evolve and shape. Our lesbians tend to dress like lumberjacks or skater boys, always with a beer in hand.

I'll probably get tar and feathered for saying so, but really, how is this any different then Lady Ga-Ga doing a gay anthem trying to corner the $$ gay market $$ ?

(Disclaimer - I DO like Lady Ga-Ga... I just feel it would have meant a little more if someone GAY and out like Ricky Martin had done the anthem instead.)

I have no problem with someone releasing a product to specifically appeal to the gay community. I just feel that very few people are genuine about it. I'd prefer if the entrepreneurs behind "cornering the gay market" were in fact gay and lesbian entrepreneurs.

With music I feel this way ten fold... should the artist behind a gay anthem not be gay themselves? Someone who understands it and not empathizes? Or even worse, pities us?

Anchor Steam Beer fell on hard times (in the 1980s?) and promoted its beer to gay bars in the San Francisco area. After they started making money again, they went for a broader audience.

For a while, though, Anchor was a semi-gay beer and they probably have gays to thank for their survival.
