Gay camping.

I didn't realize that camping had a sexual orientation....

No different than straight camping, Other than no kids & no women just men. Some are clothing optional !!

Isn't it different though? I'm kind of operating on the assumption that it is supposed to be different, otherwise they wouldn't bother. I mean I've been regular camping, and in that case it isn't really about interacting with the other campers. But if it is all gay people I would kind of assume the intention is to give people more common ground for socializing.

No I have not. My dad used to take me camping. They were the worst days of my life. I'd rather to have another heart surgery then to go camping again. I love the beauty and all, but, I cannot stand the isolation from the city.

For some reason, every time we went camping, I got really sick when I got home and had to be hospitalized. It stopped the last few times. But, I prefer to stay in my city. We can always set up a tent in my backyard right?

Also my doctor prefers I stay in a city anyway. He told my father it is a bad idea to take me camping. My dad said I needed the experience. I'm not used to a lot of exercise because I spent a large portion of my life hospitalized. I can't carry a heavy backpack as I'm forbidden to lift more then ten pounds (my dog is fifteen).

I'd prefer to stay in the city. However... if any of my friends or family goes camping I'm more then happy to look at pictures. . If I go camping again... I'm getting a cabin.

Love camping with other gay friends.
Used to go to a camp / beach in Santa Cruz, private nude beach. Sadly closed now.
But had some really great times.
Hope to find another nude camping ground this summer to introduce my bf into it.

Is this post about camping at a gay themed camp ground or just going camping as a gay guy?
The few gay camp grounds I have gone to are a turn off as it rolls back to the same old shit, cruising and sex on the trails and a bunch of nasty shit in the pool.
I like hiking and camping but I don't feel the need to limit this to a gay camp ground with nightly drag queen shows and a "pig pen" back in the woods.
In fact its much more fun to go primitive camping in a real honest to goodness wilderness such as a National Forest for me at least. Stumbling upon a glory hole on a piece of plywood next to some bullshit lake called "Rikki Lake" isn't as much fun as watching a black bear scurry across the trail in front of me way out in the middle of nowhere where you will get no cell signal.

What is "gay" camping? I go camping (tent, sleeping bag, campfire, the whole works) a couple of times each Fall with a group of friends.

My theory is, Motel 6 is 'camping'/roughing it, and anything less is just barbaric. However, my best friend did manage to talk me into going on a couple of camping trips last summer with a bunch of other gay guys. 8+ gay guys drinking and getting loud, we managed to piss off all the other campers who were straight and red neck.

The first night there, while sitting around the camp fire I asked, "Ok... now what? Do we tell each other ghost stories, or give each other pedicures?"

We ended up playing "Truth or Dare". Of course.

as a kid my family would camp for vacations. we tent camped for years then we upgraded t a travel trailer. i dont think i would go tent camping at this stage of my life. i need nice linens and big fluffy bath robes when i'm on vacation....

How? I've never heard of "gay camping" as a separate activity and just because gay people do something doesn't mean what they are doing becomes "gay".

Who wouldn't bother? I was under the impression that camping was about enjoying nature and getting away from the constant barrage of media and electronics in life, not socialization or sex.

yeah we have kind of the same question. There are camp grounds that cater exclusively to gay men. I've never been to one and I'm trying to figure them out. I've been camping plenty of times, but it wasn't as part of a group of homos, and everything worked out just fine. Enjoying nature...check...Getting away from it all...check... It didn't matter one damn bit whether the people at the next campsite were gay or not.

Yet dozens of these places exist. So I figure they must be offering something that I haven't figured out yet.

Orientation does affect every aspect of life, so i don't feel the need to surround myself with gay/bi people when i do things.
