Gay Couple Refused Accommodation

I've just noticed this story on the BBC News site:

As the piece says, it's now illegal in the UK to discriminate in the provision of services on the basis of sexuality. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

Personally, I’d have checked a list of LGBT-Owned/Friendly accommodations in the area I was traveling to. Not just to avoid conflicts, but for personal safety. Who knows what loons are out there.

If none were available, than I’d probably play it safe and go to a franchised hotel/motel; someplace that has to adhere to non-discrimination laws. I’d just not feel safe going to any old B&B. The idea of staying in somebody’s house is too weird to me, anyway.

I find it hard to believe that at their age they say this is this first time they have experienced homophobia first hand as well. Was this the first time they had left their house or something?
