I just saw the last 15 minutes or so of Oprah and her guest was Mrs. McGreevy.
They showed a clip of Mr. McGreevy and his new boyfriend and in it they kissed each on the on the lips. The kiss was just a peck and lasted less than a second. The audiance let out a horrified gasp. WTF, her audiance is comprised mostly of women and presumably liberal so I couldn't believe they gasped. It is 2007, isn't it?

One would think most of them are liberal or at the least open minded, but knowing McGreevy's luck it was an audience of ladies whose husbands left them because they too were gay! Wouldn't that be something to talk about ;)

WTF? This is the same Oprah that had a special on the movie Brokeback mountain?

Nobody seemed offended at Heath and Jakes kiss then.

Yeah, but that's not *real*. Some people don't comprehend that being gay is more than just saying it, and wearing more pink than most... They can't comprehend that there's emotion in a gay situation. They are two guys being paid to kiss;

Which, to me, just makes me think. Does that technically qualify them to go on Broke Straight Boys?

Brokeback straight mountain boys?

they wernt gasping because it was a gay kiss, they were gasping because it was MR. MrcGreevy kissing another man. The whole show she was talking about him coming out and how he screwed over his last wife and then they just show them kissing. i dont think they were having a homophobic gasp

Keep in mind the focus was on MRS. McGREEVY. Of course the audience is gonna gasp and the such after hearing her side of things. The audience has bonded with her experiences rather than his at this point in time. If he had been the focus of the show and a clip of her kissing someone had been shown, the audience would have had a similar reaction.
It's a persuasive psychology technique...

mikey

The gasp rubbed me the wrong way too, but they were just conditioned for an hour to sympathize with her. I'm no McGreevy fan, think he's a creep, but the wife just bugged me.

Yeah, this was my feeling exactly. It was more anti-McGreevy than anti-gay.

I think Oprah should have given her a real opportunity to address the rumors she's anti-gay. I was waiting for "I hate my jerk ex-husband, but it's important not to misinterpret that as hostility towards the gay community." But from her point of view, she probably does hate us all. I can't imagine what she went through, but again, I found her annoying and didn't have as much sympathy for her as I probably should have.

bingo! I think we have the winner here.

speaking of that show.... nate berkus and i need to get married and make beautiful babies. :)

I saw the show and also gasped. The audience gasp wasn't during the kiss it was the whole short time they showed him with his new bf. It was like the show was rubbing it in her face. It was just bad timing. Oprah is so gay friendly.

So now she's working through her grieving period with a national book tour?

I think the two of them kinda deserve each other. She's making money off her "agony", and he's too stupid to know he can't be a public figure anymore after what he did.

Makes me glad I don't have a TV set.
