Gay McDonald's ad in France

I didn't really see the point. Why is McDonald's delivering social commentary, anyway? I'm glad they're saying they're accepting of all customers, but I've never gotten the impression that I'm unwelcome in ANY fast food establishment...well, except maybe Chik-fil-A...they play Christian music in their restaurants and they're closed on Sunday...it's creepy.

Watching it again, is there a sort of subtext going on that says, "Looking for a place to come out to your father ? Take him to McDonald's !"

Hmm...
I got that too, looks like the kid is ready to set the dad straight (yes.)

And they donate a good chunk of their profits (prophets ?) to the Baptist church. Which is kind of annoying since they are all quite convinced we gay folk are going to burn in hell.

But, their nuggets are so tasty...

I gotta agree with Reaper. it seems as though there's a gay guy just for the sake of having a gay guy. They wanna seem PC and open-minded and accepting in oder to get more business.

Well. . .duh!!! Imagine the crazy thought of a business doing advertising to get more business; that's just crazy talk.

It's also very subtle. If you watch it once you might not even know it's a gay ad.

That's what I thought.

Considering more teenagers are closeted than they are out, I think the ad targets the correct demographic. I don't think the ad is saying "come out of the closet"; that would have nothing to do with selling hamburgers. I think it is just basically saying "everyone is welcome."

And saying it very nicely. ..|

French isn't an 'accent'. It's a 'language'.

They opened a location in the Louvre. You can munch a Big Mac while gawking at the Mona Lisa now.

McDonald's has been in the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia for many years. You can get your science fix with fries as well.

Am I the only one underwhelmed with it as an ad?

I mean, it doesn't really do much with the idea of having a gay character in it. I mean, does he come out to his dad during their lunch? And why not show that then?

I mean, it's nice to see gay characters in commercials for big businesses, but there was practically no need for it here, given that it didn't really serve the commercial at all.

I don't know, perhaps it's just not an effective ad in my view, or maybe I'm just a jaded cynic, but I didn't like it.

for a multinational it's pretty out there. plus the ad is JUST suggestive enough to appeal to a gay audience without turning a straight audience off. plus the idea of the character actually coming out in the ad is absurd. that does nothing to promote the mcdonalds brand neither does it make for a more effective spot. if anything it diminishes it significantly. the actions of the character are in line with the "come as your are" tag . it hits on the level it was meant to.

Here, dry your tears on your sesame seed bun.

All this commercial is doing is hitting a really bad nerve with the gay community. When i'm thinking of delicious food, I don't want to be reminded of how depressing, confusing and emotionally torturing the coming out process is. . .especially when they're showing us that this guy's father is about to disown him.

I'm just waiting for the new Burger King commercial where a guy is eating chicken fries, and telling his teenaged son: "Me and your mother are splitting up. Take care of your mother for me."

Like that's going to make guys who were raised by a single mom want to eat there.

But seriously, McDonald's has always been sloppy and retarded. I'm not surprised they're still failing.

The commercial itself is sweet, but I'm like wtf does that have to do with McDonalds lol. It just made me long for a boyfriend...:-({|=

That is the silliest thing I have heard in a long time. Don't bother correcting someone if the end result doesn't make even a small bit of sense.

They were speaking French in the ad. They weren't speaking French with any kind of accent. If anything, they may have been speaking French with a 'local dialect'. There is a huge difference.

English is a language in the US, but 'American' is not an accent. There are, however, many, many dialects which differ from region to region, just like any language in any country.

No accents. Only dialects.

Is it still the silliest thing you've hear in a long time?
