Gay Men, Comic Books, and Geeking Out

I think if Birds Of Prey was done now it would be better received. No one wanted to see actual costumes not long ago. The whole X-Men Ultimate comics and movie ruined it in many ways. It tried to take a more realistic take on heroes and dumped classic looks. Birds Of Prey brought in the classic Batgirl. I loved that about the show. The best scenes are the one with Barbara in flashback. If they spun off Black Canary now I believe the show would totally work now. I am a DC guy. I know many prefer Marvel but I love the classic costumes and how they have pretty much stayed the same since the 1930's. Marvel changes up their costumes every few years. Marvel is blogged down with new recruits. You can't keep up unless you continuously read their comics. DC you could walk away from and come back 10 years later and you would still see the characters you loved growing up and you would know who all the heroes are and something about their pasts. DC to me is iconic.

I watched Birds of Prey on TV - but much of it was laughable - I wish they had taken it more seriously - I remember in the 1st episode Huntress walks around a crime scene touching stuff WITHOUT gloves. c'mon! Like ANYONE in that Bat-family would make that screw up.

Looking forward to the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle episode of Smallville. Who is playing them?

Love the First Avenger poster.

and we ALL know that Wonder Woman is a cosmic fag hag - that's why we love her so!

I was happy to see Shrinking Vilot and Lightning lass's lesbian relationship updated to current continuity. I have high hopes that Element Lad and Sean Erin will be officially revealed as "friends of northstar" too.

Booster and Beetle are going to be on Smallville? That'll be pretty awesome to see their friendship in live-action...if they go that route.

And aren't they supposed to be making a live-action show for Jaime Reyes' Blue Beetle soon?

I kept hoping that Kyle's gay assistant Terry Berg (who got bashed) would be given a ring during the Sinestro War when so many Lanterns died on/near Earth and become Kid Lantern and join the Titans - they need a gay character too - that way they kill 2 birds with one stone.

Honestly, I want to see a gay character in the GL series, even if it's a member of a different corps. As long as they are featured somewhat and not just a one-off character. AS is I don't think there are any right now.

Like a Sin corps ring or a ring from any corps? But yeah I agree it would've a good way to go with it.

I'd like to see Terry as a Blue Lantern or a Star Sapphire.

If nothing else, we gays have to have hope.

I have held off - waiting to hear some more feedback on it.

I would hate to spend the $60 for the game and then not feel it was worth the $15/mo to subscribe to it.

I'm enjoying DCUO so much I'm considering paying for the lifetime membership...

mikey

Eh, I don't really like THE BATMAN. I'm more of a GL, MM or Flash kinda guy.

Can DCUO only be played online? Or is it like Diablo, and has both an online and regular gameplay mode?

^^Wiki says online only. It's an MMORPG so I guess that's why =/

Lame. I want to play it right bad but I hate playing games online. Subscription fees and lag... gross. On the bright side I guess I just saved 60 bucks.

Give it a while, hopefully by then there will have been a price drop or something. I also wanna try it out but I don't have $60.

Haven't posted anything here in awhile so here'a a few things I picked up here and there.

First, Michael Rosenbaum will in fact return to Smallville as Lex Luthor for the series finale. From Spinoffonline.com:

Only this morning it seemed all but certain that Smallville would end its final season without Lex Luthor. But now TV Line reports that Michael Rosenbaum will reprise his role for the May 13 finale.

“I’m delighted to return for the series finale,” Rosenbaum told the website. “I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness, and even their threats. Ha ha.”

He added on Twitter: “I’m excited to come back one last time. Just promise me you’ll all watch my new stuff. Then we will be even. Haha. Rock the hell on friends!”

The 11th-hour announcement — Smallville wraps production next month — ends more than a year of hand-wringing over whether the 38-year-old actor would appear in the final episodes as alumni like John Schneider, Annette O’Toole and John Glover have. Although Rosenbaum’s involvement was viewed by producers as critical to the show’s finale, he reportedly rebuffed repeated offers to return.

“I’ve twisted his arm, I’ve taken him to dinner, I’ve gotten him drunk … I’ve tried to get him to sign papers that he didn’t know what they were … so, I’m trying everything that I can,” star Tom Welling, one of the show’s executive producers, told KryptonSite during Comic-Con. “Michael wants to come back, but there are just some things to iron out, and I think he understands that we can’t end the show without Lex Luthor. We’re even teasing the idea that he’s going to be on already, with the idea of clones, or [the idea] that Lex has developed these bodies that he could then tap into to heal himself later in life.”

Rosenbaum last appeared on Smallville in the May 2008 seventh-season finale, when the Fortress of Solitude collapsed with Luthor inside. The two-hour series finale will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT May 13 on The CW.

This is awesome news, Rosenbaum was often IMHO the best thing about the series, he is one hell of an actor and I can't wait to see the setup of Luthor as Superman's greatest nemesis in the finale.

I wish Tom Welling would get me drunk.

In other Smallville news, we will get the Connor Kent Superboy. From comicbookresources.com:

Fans of The CW's ten-year anchor "Smallville" breathed a sigh of relief when it was finally officially confirmed that former series co-star Michael Rosenbaum would return one last time to play Lex Luthor in the May 13 series finale. Now, word is out that the young Luthor clone that's been factoring in to the current Season 10 story line will appear again as a much different DC Comics character, Connor "Superboy" Kent. TV Line revealed that the teen superhero will appear as played by actor Lucas Gabreel. No specific episode was confirmed for the character's debut, but show executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders said "Conner’s journey is manipulated by a master...Luckily, someone knows more about Conner’s life than he does. But he should be wary of strangers bearing gifts.”

not bad huh?

And lastly a pic of the new Spider-Man costume from the now officially titled film: "The Amazing Spider-Man".

Honestly, this may be the coolest fucking costume I have ever seen. And notice the mechanical, not organic web shooters.

^^I'm so glad they're using the mechanical web-shooters, just wondering how they'll explain he obtained them.
