Gay Men, Comic Books, and Geeking Out

no - not me - that would be nice. Cover boy is Gui Wandressen from an Exterface.com photoshoot. They were very cool about letting me use the image.

WonderCon in San Francisco isn't as big as ComicCon - in San Diego by any means - but still fun, and this year is the 25th Anniversary so should be good.

I have never been to a comic convention. I really must make it one day.

I wish money wasn't so tight right now. I hear DC is doing a reign of doomsday story arc. I love Doomsday! Anybody reading it?

If it's the one I'm thinking of no I haven't been reading it. But I think Saint Walker is in it right?

Yeah he is. I guess the arc is being done through single issues in different series, Steel, Justice League, Superman/Batman, Superboy, etc... From my understanding, Doomsday is going after characters involved with the Reign of the Supermen arc from years ago.

reading Reign of Doomsday... like it but don't love it. Need to get further into it to see where Doomsday's been and how he has new powers.

In other geek news... Dragon Age II is really fun for Gaymers I've been playing it for days. Bods on the 3D characters are pretty hot, but there isn't a pretty boy to seduce. Modmakers anyone?

Already used the abs above to seduce two male members of my party. Pics and story details available in the article.

Thanks for the kind words about the flier - I'm so pleased with it - some of my best work and I get to be the client too!

I heard about DA2 being gaymer friendly, and it's good to know it actually is. Reading your article later HnH.

finished Dragon Age II. Fun and very dramatic ending. But my relationship with Anders ended tragically. Big Surprise. But may have to play it through as a mage hater to see if a happy ending with Fenris is possible. Anyone tried?

Nope, seeing as I don't have the game. But if I did I would have definitely been a mage.

And In V it looks like Tyler is dead, which is very unfortunate.

anyone "geeking out" about the DCnU? Or just plain livid?

A little bit of both. I'm excited about Firestorm, Mr. Terrific, Demon Knights, Green Lantern and Justice League Dark. Livid in that my two favorite DC characters, Black Adam (obviously) and Dr. Fate are nowhere to be found...again. Hopefully, these and other magically inclined heroes and villains will pop up in JLD enough to not make me want to storm DC HQ. I mean they go through all the trouble to reinvent BA (World War III, Black Reign, 52, etc.) and then, nothing...:grrr:

I didn't like the new Dr. Fate, but I have a long-time attachment to the character so that I hope he finally gets his due.

And Uncanny X-Men ENDING with #544? What is this world coming to?

I don't follow Marvel much at all anymore, but I never thought I'd live to see the day that Uncanny would end...

The entire JSA seems to be missing? I've heard talk that "SUper Heroes" will be relatively new to the DCnU - which means no golden age legacy heroes?

Funny how many times they retro out the JSA or place them in a world that could never interact with "our" world only to bring them back.

The characters are just to great to fade away forever...

I'm thinking it won't be forever - I can see DC following this "DCnU" universe for a year or so and then revealing it is just another of the "52" earths in the Multiverse. The way they did waaaaay back when DC put the golden age heroes out to pasture on "Earth 2."

I think some of these changes (Teen Titans for example) seem to be too extreme to be permanent... unless all rebooted titles become a runaway hit - which I doubt.

Not really looking forward to fall with this reboot and also I'm not really hearing about any new action/adventure/scifi/supernatural/superhero/etc TV shows to look forward to.

Also - anyone else pick up the REALLY FANTASTIC first issue of the Kevin Keller miniseries? It does a great job of giving the reader insight into the life of Riverdale High's new gay teen. The story manages to deal with "coming out" and gays in the military in a frank and positive way but still keeps the tone VERY Archie Comics. I personally hadn't read an Archie comic since I was a kid but I'll be picking up whatever Kevin Keller is in. It makes me so happy to think that some gay kid can pick that up off their corner newsstand. The times they are a-changin.

From what I've read the JSA is being retconned out of existence...again. But like jjonn said, these are Legacy characters in their own right that never seem to stay gone for very long.

By removing the JSA, you get rid of attached characters like Stargirl, Atom Smasher, Obisidian and Jade by association. I mean the idea that Alan Scott never existed is a bit much for me to swallow right now...

Anyone see the new Green Latern movie yet?

anyone "geeking out" about the DCnU? Or just plain livid?

Livid actually.

I'm pretty much dropping the DC line once the reboot/relaunch/retcon/complete utter bullshit happens.

By the way, this was a funny video that was made about it all starring Hitler.....[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpUh_Yl49l4&feature=player_embedded"]YOUTUBE LINK[/ame]

Anyone see the new Green Latern movie yet?

I haven't seen it and probably won't until the thing comes on TV.

Reviews I've read were middling to bad.

My comic shop guy said he had a few people saying that it was pretty good.

I had heard that the reviews for Green Lantern were pretty abysmal. Honestly, it made me kind of want to watch it for myself and see if it was as bad as the critics claimed. Truth be told, it wasn't. It's no Dark Knight (a movie I sincerely loved), but it's no Ghost Rider. The movie was a good hour-and-a-half superhero flick. The effects were pretty tight--much better than I expected after watching the trailers--and the dialogue was pretty decent.

Ryan Reynolds wouldn't have been my choice for GL--he's more of a Flash to me--but he wasn't bad. My only serious gripe was that they didn't have Sinestro as the bad guy. Sorry if that seems like a spoiler, but I promise, it isn't much of one. When you think Green Lantern, you think Sinestro. It's like Superman and Lex Luthor, or Batman and Joker. But this is an origin movie so I suppose it made sense. It was Sinestro that mentored Hal Jordan, was it not?

In any case, from the way things ended, it seemed like there may be a sequel in the works--that is if the movie performs well, despite the negative reviews.
