I have way too many friends who are gay club/gay bar addicts.

Seriously, you know the type. The gay guy who goes to a gay club EVERY damn night. They arrive at happy hour and stay till the damn lights are turning off.

At first, I dismissed their club addiction as being part of their personalities. Everyone likes a party animal, no? And some people like to socialize and drink alot. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, Snowpocalypse 2010 arrived last week. The roads were barely paved. The cars were buried under 30 inches of snow and ice. And visibility was next to none in the flurries that occurred over the snowy days.

Anyone with sense would stay in doors for their sanity and safety.

Not my friends. They were determined to go clubbing. They dug out their cars (Toyota Camry and Honda Civic....) and invited me to go to Cobalt in Washington DC. About 40 minutes in good weather. Probably an hour and half in the crappy, snowy weather we had.

I told them they were insane and I begged them to stay indoors for their own safety. They ignored my pleas and drove to DC to club and get drunk.

I then realized perhaps they had a club addiction. I think it's normal for a young gay man to go clubbing on Thursday or Friday or Saturday night.

But on a MONDAY night...until 2am....when you have work at 5am.....? And every night after that?

In fact, my friends are always at a bar or club every night spending their money away on cocktails and mixed drinks.

What possesses these gay men to club every night of every week?

I dont mind guys that do that, but thats just not my thing. I stay away from clubs for the most part.

Maybe thats whats wrong with me. lol.

Those were the days \:/. I don't miss it, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it. We had a spot every night except Mondays. Nothing stopped us, NOTHING.

I go through spurts (no pun intended.)

Some weeks I'll be out every night until 4am.

Then there are times like now when I haven't been out to a club in a couple weeks - mainly because it costs too much.

If I could afford it, I'd be out partying every night again.

Some day... some day...

I like to go to bars and clubs every now and then but not every weekend. I really don't see the fun in getting shit faced, making an ass clown out of yourself, getting thrown out of the bar and then forgeting everything the next morning and having a hangover.... and doing this on a tuesday or something seems stupid.

I'm not much of a drinker and the prices at the bar are ridiculous. I don't see how that's fun if you do it all the time. Seems like it gets old fast.

i work to hard to party every night, i just party on saturday night and friday if it is a long weekend

I think they may have a club addiction indeed. Even when I was binging on club life, I tended to keep it to just a couple of nights a week. Usually Thursday and Saturday, or Friday and Sunday; with a day to hit the gym and collect myself in between.

These days, I tend to favor straight, cocktail or "ultralounge" settings where you can have dinner in one space, dance in another space, watch a performance artist, and open up a laptop and file your weekly revenue analysis report--all under the same roof.

Among ALL types of human activity which are not malicious, dangerous, hypocritical or exploitative, I think that clubbing is my very LEAST favorite human activity. Yecch!!!

I find that it makes human interaction IMPOSSIBLE with the heavy music and beat, by entirely hijacking all thought processes, and conversation becomes impossible even if it can be heard above the din.

I would rather sit and watch grass grow.

I think that's the point.

It's a way to be alone without being alone. Can be fun, in moderation.

I too think it's a phase most people go through. When I do go to the bars, it's once, maybe twice a week for Happy Hour and always at the smaller bars. Would rather go to private parties. The big clubs are way overpriced, overrated and attitude-laden for the most part. Most people outgrow that scene. I think you reach a point where there are too many other better things to do besides allowing your life to revolve around the bars. Not to mention that for all the throngs of people you do see in the bars, that's how many more who don't do the bars at all. Used to be that "gay" meant you HAD to be in the bars. I think that has changed a lot.

I can't believe they would go out in the snow. I mean, the scene can't be that great in the snow, they must have been like the only ones there. Here in LA, when it rains, the bar population is easily cut in half. Also, I see the guys who go out nearly every night, it must get old after a while, as others said, it's a phase. I'll go out to gay bars once, MAYBE twice a week, that is plenty.

I'm for bars every once in while, and as someone said usually when they have specials! But I've never been to a gay bar, so I'd like to try that. Clubs are okay every great once in while. I had phase of clubbing and drinking when I studied abroad in England, but that was it. I wish people my age were less into clubbing. I'm sure they're somewhere, I just have to track them down!

I swear, Wisconsin should just annex the UP...

I go out every weekend and probably twice during the week to the club or bar. I really don't have a job schedule anyway, I work when I want so I have that luxury but if I knew I had to get up earlier in the day I would not be doing that.

If you are exaggerating by saying that they go out every night while going to work the next morning then maybe they have an addiction or they just work better the next day after a night out.
