From that small article it does seem like the church were in full support of the attack. I don't mean to be extreme but why don't us sane, normal people start bombing those fucking buildings down?

Yet, the church says nothing to the Shrimp eaters running around willy nilly committing abomination after abomination with no remorse. Adopting children, marrying each other, eating lobster and eating more shrimp. It's sickening.

Either leave the gays alone or go after the shrimp eaters, that's what I say. Heretics.

Ah, Eastern Europe... Still a little backward in terms of gay rights... I mean, even Poland, a big country, is largely homophobic.. Even Greece is!

I support people's right to hold their opinion, so if people don't support gay marriage, that is their view.. Hell, they can protest on the sides if they want. But, don't go fucking attacking people for being different!

I think it's worse than homophobia.

Thankfully, no one was harmed, the police actually outnumbered the participants in the parade.

And btw, those "skinheads", they'd go out and throw stones at anyone they don't like: supporters of another football club, gypsies, liberal party meetings...

Same thing happened in Brno in the Czech Republic... unfortunately, the societies in Eastern Europe are still a bit more conservative... last year this happened in Belgrade and Moscow.
That AP article is fairly incorrect... "Gays face widespread hostility in Bulgaria" - untrue, yes, there are right-wing extremists who'd do stuff like that but on the daily round, homophobia is not widely spread.

Bulgaria's biggest star in entertainment, Azis, is gay and married to a guy. He has a very popular TV show (with the highest ratings) and he hosts his show in drag. I guess some of you have heard about him.

According to the EU 2001 census:

82.6% of Bulgarians are Orthodox Christians.

98% of Greeks are Greek Orthodox Christians.

89.8% of Poles are Roman Catholics.

All 3 countries, of course, are member states of the EU, whose charter incorporates freedom for all regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation etc etc...

Man, if this happened in America, we would be on page 2 with people proclaiming how forward thinking Europe is, nevermind the dirty cousin to the east.

More hypocrisy.
Where was their church (and its' defenders) during the 40+ years of Soviet repression which advocated atheism?
Those brave crusaders took on a small group of unarmed gays, but were silent where the Russian Army was concerned. But they did help gang up on Czechoslovakia.
It's so disappointing to witness a group of people who suffered under Soviet repression repress another group.
