O:K so I am from Montreal and we have a huge and vibrant gay village here. I only came out 3 years ago so I really enjoy going to other places and visiting thier gay villages. So far I have been to Toronto's gay village and Provincetown.
Both times I have been a little disapointed, I think it is because we are really spoiled here in Montreal, the village is huge and has tons of bars, stores, restaurants and saunas (for those who like that).

So what are other gay villages or gay sections of towns like? Which is the best gay place you have ever visited? Enquireing minds want to know.

I haven't actually been there, but I hear the Panamanian border is hopping with gay activity.

Gay villages? Is that what they call gay ghettos nowadays? ;)

That is what it is referred to in Montreal ie. I am going out in the village tonight.
So thats just the word I am used to.

I was thinking you might be referring to gay vacation spots.

Kev, Montreal has the largest gay village that I know of. I don't know how NYC is lately or San Francisco they used to be great years ago. I really enjoyed the village in Montreal.
I thought you guys were supposed to stop for dinner on the way back?

Bump I couldn't fathom another one of my threads hitting page two and sinking away... tee hee

hmm

there are a few other places, like New Orleans and Athens that compete with Canada

Sounds interesting. We only have one small, tiny gay bar here.

*puts Montreal on list of places to visit*

Try Amsterdam, Cologne, Brussels,Paris, London, Berlin... to name but a few

I've only seen Montreal's, Toronto's and Ottawa's (if you can call Ottawa's couple of stores and gay-friendly restaurants a "village"). I spend more time in Toronto's because I have friends there, but Montreal's is the biggest and most interesting. That said, Toronto's has Folsom Fair North and I just got back from this past weekend's "Church Street Fetish Fair".

In NYC, Chelsea is a big gay neighborhood. Of course, there is always the Village. There also seems to be an emerging gay community on 8th Ave in the
50's.

Good lord, years ago I used to stay at a hotel on 49th st. between 7th and 8th. 8th Avenue was all transvestite hookers and Greek-owned taquerias then. Toward the end there did seem to be a lot of construction going on.

You don't mean to tell me there are actual gay people there now? Hard to imagine a less appealing area. Although it does have good access to the theater district.

all i know is the NYC one, but its sizable. The focus is Christopher Street in the west village. then it moves outwards. the west village is entirely gay. chelsea to the north is the new gay hotspot. soho to the south is well established. and the east village to the east is where the majority of the gay bars are. so from river to river from canal to 30th. queer.

What about the Outer Boroughs? Used to be the only gay bar outside Manhattan was one in Queens, according to the Damron Address Book.

Any gay life in Iowa? What about the west coast San Fran etc etc...

I hear Santa Fe, New Mexico has a high gay population.

Yeah! If you're interested in joining a Lesbian Soft Ball Leauge.

I never been to the "Gay Village" in Montreal.

The Gay Mecca's in American used to be San Francisco; Castro, and New York City; Chelsea.

I've been to the "Red Zone" in Boston...years ago. I've tricked in Provincetown, MA...with MUCH success.

I was unimpressed in Miami's South Beach.

I got drunk and threw up on Key West.

I was molested and had a great time in New Orlean's French Quarter.

I've met, and broke up with several guys in Dallas' "Oak Lawn/Crossroads" area.

I started a Tequilla binging-Houston-PD was called bar-fight in Montrose.

I nursed a sun-burn at the Bonham Exchange behind the Alamo, and the River Walk in San Antonio.

I nearly got arrested on 6th Street in Austin.

I got lost in West Hollywood near L.A.

I made out with a Cowboy in Ft. Worth. (I never got his name, but dayhem those Wrangler butts drove me nuts!)

So what is a "Gay Village?"

:D

Since when does Rue Ste. Catherine qualify as a "village"? :p

Yes everything is mostly on St. Catherine St., however, the village of which I speak goes on for at least ten big city blocks and there are things on the side street as well. Allot of the side streets are resedential and mostly gay people live there. From what I have seen mind you (and it ain't much) Montreal definatly has the largest and most vibrant gay village, or community if you prefer.

P.S I call it the village because that is what it is known as here.
