Gays/bi in engineering???

I have only met two gay guys that are engineers. One of them works for a major private defense company and says the environment is very conservative but that has no interference with his job performance and making friends. Most gay guys I come across are attracted to liberal arts, fine arts type majors/careers.

I worked in R&D engineering on new product development for a consumer electronics company for about 10 years. This department was rather closed to anything that was not white, male and heterosexual. We had one female engineer, out of about 30 engineers, who was quite intelligent. She only lasted a few years then left. There was one black guy, a technician, who did not last very long either. I left this company as the result of a RIF. I went to manufacturing.

In manufacturing, I met a few more black and female engineers, but the overwhelming majority was white, male, and heterosexual. So, I would agree with you that the engineering community is a very conservative heterosexual male community.

Mechanical Engineer here, working in the construction business. And yes, I enjoy art too. I went to a school with about 500 other guys back in the 90s, but never met or heard of a gay one there, altough there must have been some (I wasn't really sure about myself back then).

And yes, engineers are not so communicative - but almost all of them are more communicative than me. ;) And some of them are quite hot :D
