Gays everywhere To Be Outed

I love purple - it's one of my favorite colors.

When I went to my first amusement park Gay Day (Marriot's Great America in Redwood City, 1980 or so), I wore purple pants and a pink satin bomber jacket (It was reversible - black on one side and pink on the other). At the ticket office we got buttons that were lavender with a pink triangle inside, and we were supposed to wear them to identify ourselves. I put mine on immediately, since it went with my outfit, but when I got to the gate, a park official told me I would have to take it off and hide it until 7:00, when the "straight" people were supposed to be gone. We were allowed to be there at 6:00, but we had to remain "hidden" until the general public could not see us. I was not happy about that. A couple of teenage girls mentioned that they liked my outfit and wanted my jacket, however. At least I got to make out with my BF on the roller coaster that evening.

Now I'm going to have to go shopping and find something that looks good with purple.

I think the christian church and capitol hill is going to be in for quite a few surprises....

although for me personally I think it wouldn't be great... it took me a while to get comfortable with myself and my sexuality... to have forced that on me would have been a great shock and probably not that good to deal with... I can only imagine what would happen to people who aren't ready to deal with that yet...

People have always complained that I don't have enough color for someone who lives in Florida. Maybe they'd be happy with purple. It is sort of regal.

One thing is for certain. The media would have a field day!

while there is a huge part of me that would love to see this happen for at least a day, I know how horrible it could be. Comming to terms with being gay is not as easy as comming to terms with being left handed instead of right, or even having to learn to deal with a differant ethnic back round in a world still full of spoken and unspoken prejiduce.

Each of us must walk the through that door when we are ready, and no amount of pushing, badgering or bulling is going to make it happen any faster. Being "outed" is not the same as comming out and by being outed you take away personal choice. You force someone to deal with something that they are not ready, willing and sometimes able to do.

There are so many reasons why some one remains in the closet, and in my life time there have been many times I wish I could walk back in, and then maybe do it again but just a little less public. I live a very open life, no one questions if I am cause either they know my partner or they know of him. I am out and open across the board, but maybe had I made differant choices I might have gained more out of life than I have. No I have no regrets really, but there are days, when the clouds seem rather grey, when reality sits in and wonder, would it have been better to keep it just a little closer to my vest, to not have insisted that I live my life so much out and open.

Teenages and pre-teens have it even harder as they must fight not only the basic problems of school, but expectations of friends, family and often church. These are people are who have few options if outed, they have few places to turn to, few people to speak with and few chances to have a normal childhood if there is a such thing.

I know the point of this post was to be funny, and in that respect, I would say that it did make me laugh, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it is a good thing that something like this could not happen, to many lives would be destroyed and I believe that the suicide rate would increase to a level that is unacceptable. One suicide due to sexual orientation is to much, but imagine what the rate would be like if something like this actaully happened.

And no, we would not be accepted any more or less than we are now. Those who have a problem with it, will have a problem even if our numbers were 50%.

And i was told i had to much time on my hands for posting & i quote" go yankees!!"
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is this?

Can't stand purple.

I would prefer having a perfect tan.

What about poor Barney? Pray he's not bashed.
The very idea of a hard, throbbing, purple penis - wait a minute, we've all done those.

Yeah. What if you're already purple like that teletubby? Isn't he supposed to be gay anyway? Maybe the day will be known as "Tinki-Winki Day".

just had to post this...

It's rush week here in Toronto for U of T and all the engineering students today were in their coveralls and painted fully purple....

I saw a whole bunch all around town and instantly thought of this post...

Heh! I thought about that too. The purple colouring lasts for a few weeks too.

If this actually happened, I would expect the world to be subdued by the shock of it. Even if we are only ten percent, (and I think we would be surprised by the real numbers),actually seeing ten percent of the population as gay has got to give people pause. It's easy to hate a group when you think you're isolated from them and they're out there somewhere. It's different when they are members of your own family, members of your church, somebody you work with and admire. The confusion might even make them think!

Well-written, but strange. Very strange.

But to be honest, I don't want to be purple. I'd probably find a boyfriend much, MUCH easier, but I don't wanna be purple! ;_;

The color contrast of African-Americans has never done much to advance their cause or reduce prejudice against them.
If anything, just because it's visible doesn't mean hate mongers won't continue their sleazy behavior.
Gays, Jews, Catholics etc probably have it somewhat easier because you can't always tell by looking.

That would make everything way too easy, why can't it be red? I HATE Purple.
