The German government has issued a warning about using the Firefox browser because of security issues.

The Federal Office for Information Security made a similar ruling on the safety of Internet Explorer in January.

The office warned that the Firefox vulnerability, confirmed by Firefox makers, could allow hackers to run malicious programs on users' computers.

Food for thought

^ Possibly, although I think it's Apple who sends those checks. Damn those Macs with their Safari. Let's see if the FOIS hit on Chrome next.

What?! I thought Firefox was way better than IE. Are there any more options?? This is stupid.

All web browsers have security flaws. They might as well recommend that you don't surf the web at all.

So if your using FF, just keep using it. Using IE, use it. Safari, use it. Chrome, use it. Opera, use it. And so on and so forth. As long as you restrict what content downloads onto your computer and also surf the web in a safe manor, you should be fine.

I'm not rich enough to afford a manor.

It is. A few months ago they warned you not to use IE.

It's a government thing and it has to do with computers. That means any advice that they do is automatically near useless.

But hey .. at least they are trying to :) That office is supposed to warn citizens about security risks in consumer software so that they update. At that point there was no update available, so they said "don't use it". Which is not really helpful to the average citizen, since they didn't offer them any alternative ..

But to add a bit more criticism - while the flaw existed, there was no malware floating around that actually used that hole. Meanwhile there are still several unpatched IE holes that DO get exploited ..
And .. since this morning or so that FF bug is patches as well (update your browser!)
