Hi guys,

A little of background history before my question:

I live in Brazil! A hot, sunny place where many people are tan and being tan is of course considered attractive.

On another hand, I am white (pale white!), blonde and I have green/hazel (sp?) eyes, and due to these my dermatologist told me that I should avoid the sun for the most part, and it would be difficult and risk to get any tan.

However, I feel so uncomfortable with my skin color, I feel very embarassed to take my shirt off even though I'm in fair shape. Even around my family I avoid it because I'm afraid they'd laugh at me.

I have tried the whole 'accept myself as I am' but I'm having a hard time; wish I could give a small tan a go. How do you suggest me to try and change this?

Talk to a dematologist about products that slightly bronze the skin and provide protection at the same time while you are in the sun. Also, if you are going to lie in the sun, spend only 10 minutes at a time.

I am fair-complectioned with hazel eyes. 10 minutes is all the time I spend in the sun (in California) at a time. Never a burn.

Good luck. I bet you are gorgeous with pale skin! (!)

Some People Find It Hard To Get Tans To Start With ... Have You Tried Sun Beds ... Sounds Stupid But Just 10 Mins Every Few Days They Slowly Increase. For About 2 - 3 Weeks MAX You Should See Some Improvement And Taning ... You Should Be Able To Tan Via Sun Now :]

that is how i got my tan and I have never been able to tan in the past. I used a tanning bed every other day for 5 minutes for the first week then increased by 5 minutes each week after & now I have good tan>> good luck

Some people just don't tan, especially redheads. Spray on tans seem to be the cure for those who can't tan.

Honestly, I prefer guys with normal complexions. It is a sign of healthy skin and most likely is. Tanning can and will cause all signs of premature aging.

Tanning beds are expensive and dangerous. Several girls at work have starting using them in the last month. All I can think of is..."what happen to your nice, original glow? You look slightly sizzled."

But then again that is me. I just had two moles removed(chest and back) for possible melanoma and still waiting for results.

If you really want a tan, research which bronzer produces good results and try them out.

You will still find me on the beach in Rehoboth, DE but I most likely will be wearing a 30 SPF. I always where a sunscreen on my face especially in the warmer months.

Just my thoughts...

I agree with fadeinout30. I used to be pro-tan skin. I tan easily and it looks great. But now I realize that pale skin is healthier and wear much stronger sunblock (although I still tan).

I'd look for bronzing products. I just saw a guy this weekend that was using that and I couldn't tell. They've got some good ones out there.
