The question reminds me of a straight friend whom I used to hang with a lot. He'd take me around to meet lots of people. He'd introduce me: "Hey, meet my friend. He's cool." Sometimes, he'd sit next to me on the sofa and rest his arm on the cushion behind me. That was fun. From time to time, I'd fantasize about having a boyfriend like him, but not him. I hope that makes sense. I wanted a laid-back guy who'd take me around all day, introducing me to people and places and stuff that I didn't know about; chatting; just bullshitting really.

The kind I'll never get:
Someone who's intelligent and kind and tactile and loves animals (that part's not impossible), and who is interested in all the little out-of-the-way things I am, doing everything I'm doing right alongside me. Basically, an identical twin, going around with me all the time, but more handsome.

And I've fantasized about a guy like that for my entire adult life. (No surprise that I'm single.)

(Yes, if you were wondering, I am a twin myself, though my brother and I don't look alike, don't have much in common, and weren't close growing up or as younger adults.)

Of course!
I wasted my entire last year in high school and third year in college pining for straight guys who were just being friends.
Since then, if it's someone I genuinely could never have (a celebrity, someone who just isn't attracted to me, someone who might be attracted but isn't available, etc.), I just sit with the attraction in silence and, before long, it fades into a simple daydream or evaporates entirely.
