Ok This time I'll make this thread more wisely. For all you extreme liberal douches... When I call tech support I hear accents that would SOMEWHAT resemble those of what I assume to be Indian culture.. not saying thats who they are.. I'm saying who their accents resemble.. and please don't tell ne I am against anyone's language, accent, or culture. So if you liberal douches wanna call me ignorant so you can stamp your feet to criticize me to feel better about yourself well go somewhere else and complain and be a baby. I myself am liberal but its extremists that give me a headache whenever I word something the wrong way.

ANYWAY

I called Dell today for information on why my computer has 3.25 gigs of ram and not 4 like the website said.. questions about my processor, and questions about my hard drive. It was supposed to come with 500 and ended up as 465.

OMG again I had another nightmare it was like PULLING fucking teeth. I had this one man ask for my number and email 5 times. Finally he said he forgot he got my number. He couldn't understand WHAT I was saying. I couldn't understand HIM. He must have used so many grammatical errors because nothing he said made sense. Then the conversation turned to my monitor and and he said oh I'm sorry when I corrected him. Jesus why Can't I just call and you give it to me nice and easy.. say it in clear English so I can understand you without having things repeated and less time be wasted. It's not that hard.

I can understand if someone has a sore throat or a SLIGHT accent or they are naturally quiet.. but this as happening ALL THE TIME with every tech support I call is aggravating.

Being half Mexican I called and asked to speak to someone in Spanish. SAME bullshit. They put someone on the phone who i KNOW is NOT hispanic and its the same damn shit. BARELY can understand what HE was saying... I am far from being fluent in Spanish but even "I" spoke better spanish then this guy! I had to curse and hang up so many times.

I dont want anyone on this forum to tell me to grow up and go study their culture and travel the world and learn their accent. I'm just trying to fix my god damn fucking computer so that it can run the way I want it to... not a foreign language lesson. If I wanted that I'd take it in college. I'm 20 years old how the hell do you expect me to travel to India AND back just so I can fix my 800 computer. The hotel and plane ticket will cost more. Last time someone told me i was ignorant and told me to go study their culture while I travel. I was 19 how do you tell that to a fucking 19 yr old who is about to go to college? Wat the fuck?

I feel if you are speaking a certain language, you should know it pretty well and it shouldn't be bad to the point where you need things repeated or the customer needs you to repeat YOURSELF because you are slurring your words. Now working in public is different because its easier to hear and understand people's accents. Over the phone its harder to hear.. and not only that.. these calls are made overseas so these people don't have good experience with English in America. I have many friends of different cultural backgrounds that have had accents over the years and I don't criticize them for it... But this is a business matter I paid for a fucking Warranty and I should expect Fast and easy service.. not this god damn bullshit thats wasting MY TIME.

its called outsourcing hun

a lot of companies have help lines that outsource to other places in the world

i once got an east indian guy "helping" me out when my internet had been down for like 8 hours... and he couldnt figure out what the problem was... and i'm like well i don't have internet and i'm paying for it so you better figure out what the problem is... and he literally said... "its not my problem".... i mean hell how rude is that... suffice it to say i hung up on him.. called back.. got a different guy... and he fixed the problem and i also told him about the first guy.....

so yeah that my story

oh and Canada is working on making it impossible to become a citizen of canada unless u are fluent in english or french both reading and writing

hopefully that will fix some language barriers...

First off all, the 500Gb harddrive IS 465gb
the drive has 500,000,000,000 bytes.
500,000,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 465.6 GB

This stems from the ORIGINAL hard drives. we're talking drive bigger than a refridgerator which held no more memory than a floppy disk. When hard drives first came out they were indicated by their character capacity "5million characters" And characters were 8 bit (yeilding a 256 character set)

With the advent of erxponentially increasing data storage, things were represented instead by byte, because of the evolution of chips able to run a variety of code (executable code)

Computers address memory in powers of 2, due to the binary base.
1 = 1
10 = 2
11 = 3
100 = 4
and so on
11111111 = 255

computers therefore, report their memory and hard drive space in orders of 1024 (10000000000 in binary)

1 bit is the smallest size on a computer, either true or false
1 Byte is 8 bit
1 kb =1024 byte
1 mb = 1,048,576 byte
1 gb =1,073,741,824 byte

Thanks. But that doesn't help me with the other issues. Plus Its false advertising for Dell. If they advertise 500Gigs of storage.. It should say 500Gigs. The average consumer wouldn't know that.

No, it's not false advertising. They advertised it correctly they told you that you have 500Gb, (500,000,000,000 bytes) and, because of sector sizing, you probably have closer to 513,000,000,000 bytes. So, in reality, you got MORE than you were expecting.

Ok well all these things I'm being told now.. I could've been told then on the phone. I was never told any of these things and i was on the phone for 2 hours with different people. I should get this information from dell not a gay sex forum in a matter of minutes

If you called tech support, then you called someone designed to help you deal with a tech issue. Did you have a tech issue, or were you just calling because you didn't understand the information Noiro just explained to you? The tech person might not have been able to answer your questions if they did not pertain to a particular problem. Perhaps you should have called someone having to do something with sales to explain to you what you bought instead.

This is why when you get a computer you should go local.

Better prices, better service, and you're supporting a local business, not a (rightfully so) money mongering company willingly shafting the american economy by outsourcing its jobs.

Hey, i'm all for free business, and that they're free to do that business however they want. But. what do you expect from a company like that.

Is this either fair or wise?

Local means that if you move you might lose any support you might need, which means you're relegated to calling individual component manufacturers' helplines (Gigabyte in Taiwan, anyone?) which come with their own suite of problems.

At least the big guns (Dell, HP et al) offer worldwide service and warranty and you can get them to come fix your machine anywhere in the world where they have an office or agent.

And if the firm is global, surely they should spread their wealth and not just prop up one single economy. What makes the US more important than the rest of us?

LOL LOL That is so, so true! :rotflmao:

Though I haven't needed tech support on my Dell laptop, I seriously doubt that I would have even bought a Dell if I had known their tech support came out of India. After all, when I made the original phone call to buy and configure it, I was talking to somebody with a "perfect midwestern accent" (I think they were possibly in Minnesota). Though of course it's altogether possible that jumping ship from Dell to HP or someone else, tech support might STILL be in India.

I agree with you 100%, I wish that customer support would be done from the U.S. Of course it's a corporate decision which cuts costs and all that. [Are the savings ever passed on to us? Not on your life!] But - and I don't know whether this is true anymore - I knew that this damned outsourcing had gotten totally out of control when I heard that the State of Florida Employment Commission (or whatever their department is called, which administers unemployment, job searching and the like) had outsourced to India! I think it was about 4 years ago I heard this.

Uh...it's THAT kind of shit which causes more and more people to need to seek unemployment and job help in the first place!

Oh Christ on a cracker people.

For decades the US has been cramming their products and their 'support' down the throats of every country around the world, including having prisoners in texas as phone support when I am calling from out of country...y'all.

The world is flat.

It is an international economy.

Get fucking over it.

I wish some of you JUB Americans would conveniently find yourself in a school shooting or something.

Your last "I hate tech support from India" was fucking offensive and ignorant. I think you were holding yourself back in this thread from being yourself in the usual threads that you create.

It's perfectly fine to criticize tech support from gods-know-where but I doubt most of you could put as professionally as Dorkzilla had done in this thread.

Start being cheap and less whiny and you Americans might just get their tech support jobs back.

You got a problem with their accents and so desperately want your shitty jobs back? Tackle corporate greed. They caused this imbalance of "fine service". Or capitalism -- a fine American value.

Having said that, I hate calling Tech Support in America or Canada. I'm not just saying this because I just feel I need to attack you lot. I mean, I just find your accents far too thick to comprehend --especially Texans! God, the drawl in some of you. And some Americans can be unnecessarily silly on the line. And oh! -- since when is American slang, International slang?

Prefer the Asian service/British service I get.

... like nobody ever gets shitty tech support from native-born Americans with cracker accents...

I love companies who have online tech support, so you can type your problems. It is so much simpler! :luv:
