Getting upset with Tech Support (Accents)

And if the firm is global, surely they should spread their wealth and not just prop up one single economy. What makes the US more important than the rest of us?

-d-

When the economy is as shitty as it is now with jobs disappearing and factories closing, things like immigration and outsourcing should be restricted.

Why should immigration be restricted, and why wait for a shitty economy to restrict outsourcing. Isn't outsourcing one of the joys of capitalism, or is that only when we're the beneficiary?

Because the government says we need immigration to make up for labour shortages. But if unemployment is going up and salaries are going down, then the logic of that statement disappears.

lets turn into socialist shall we. ;)

The United States doesn't open up it's doors just enough to appease our labor market, then shut them. Our ancestors' policy of freedom and immigration was supposed to offer hope to people from other countries that, if they could escape tyranny, they could take advantage of the freedoms of the US. There's more to immigration than giving them cheap labor, though it speaks volumes of Americans that we see them that way.

Well said and completely agree.

I wish some of you JUB Americans would conveniently find yourself in a school shooting or something.

Your last "I hate tech support from India" was fucking offensive and ignorant. I think you were holding yourself back in this thread from being yourself in the usual threads that you create.

It's perfectly fine to criticize tech support from gods-know-where but I doubt most of you could put as professionally as Dorkzilla had done in this thread.

Start being cheap and less whiny and you Americans might just get their tech support jobs back.

You got a problem with their accents and so desperately want your shitty jobs back? Tackle corporate greed. They caused this imbalance of "fine service". Or capitalism -- a fine American value.

Having said that, I hate calling Tech Support in America or Canada. I'm not just saying this because I just feel I need to attack you lot. I mean, I just find your accents far too thick to comprehend --especially Texans! God, the drawl in some of you. And some Americans can be unnecessarily silly on the line. And oh! -- since when is American slang, International slang?

Prefer the Asian service/British service I get.

I love British Accents. Always clear and easy to understand. And as for Asian accents that I have gotten from tech support from time to time.. no problem... English may not be their strong language but at least they have had some background in it before they got hired.

I agree with you on the Texans can't understand THOSE either :gogirl:

The people with bad accents... it's not their fault so I feel bad for yelling. It's the companies' fault for hiring people that have little experience with English as a foreign language.

Do you even realize that he started that rant because of you?

Madonna, you could get a Mac; Mac tech support is done by Americans.

Seriously, though, I feel your pain. There is nothing more aggravating than being transferred to tech support that features non-native speakers. It would be all right if their English was understandable, but it often isn't. I say, if they must outsource, at least get some people who can speak and understand with a certain level of competence.

The pro-Indian outsourcing posts in this thread really are missing the point. It's all about pleasing and taking care of the needs of the customers, folks, nothing to do with nationalism.
THANK YOU but according to some.. this thread is seen as ignorant

^Maybe they'll have enough sense to buy local products instead of buying from companies that you KNOW outsource and then complaining about the results.

Madonna, they see it as racist but of course it really isn't.

You apparently have not seen his last rant on their accents.

It's not racist, it's just painfully ignorant. For a guy who battles racism against his own countrymen, one would think he would do the same for other races. I shouldn't be expecting this from the same guy, who most probably form his threads using this Ouija board do that.

But of course, you see his point completely. You totally understand him. Oh you post maverick you.

I'm not pro-Indian outsourcing. You don't like it, it's not their fault they've got their jobs.

***

And it takes more than a picture of silly hand gesture by your tyrannical Uncle Sam to perturb me.

That's just the thing, Seeta: I see his point. I don't know if he has an agenda or not; that issue is beyond the scope of my post.

See?
You should see his other posts, too. It's not like nobody here could understand the point. Sometimes I wonder if you are always the devil's advocate ;)

I agree with you 100%, I wish that customer support would be done from the U.S. Of course it's a corporate decision which cuts costs and all that. [Are the savings ever passed on to us? Not on your life!] But - and I don't know whether this is true anymore - I knew that this damned outsourcing had gotten totally out of control when I heard that the State of Florida Employment Commission (or whatever their department is called, which administers unemployment, job searching and the like) had outsourced to India! I think it was about 4 years ago I heard this.

Uh...it's THAT kind of shit which causes more and more people to need to seek unemployment and job help in the first place!

It doesn't cause more people to be unemployed in India. And given that I'm not in the states or india, I really don't care which of you picks up the phone when I call tech support.

In a multicultural country you get used to hearing people speak english with different accents. I don't particularly care about the accent of the person taking care of this customer's needs..

Here's a whacky idea I just had...

Stop buying from companies that outsource?

It's like dominos, when one company sees that you can save money AND MAINTAIN CUSTOMERS after outsourcing, another is likely to.

They send our jobs to foreign countries because we patronize them anyway. You could blame yourselves for supporting companies that do this, or you could blame the foreigners who are just trying to feed their family.

Sometimes I'm just plain embarrassed by my fellow Americans. So fucking haughty and hypocritical.

Hey Brandon, how do you feel about SUPPORTING a company that outsources, do you feel partially responsible for US unemployment?

^ Can I just say, you thought of that a couple of posts back... that is all.

But Corny, no one else wanted to address the point except for me. All we want is customer service representatives we can understand. Excellent English skills are essential for this endeavor.

As for your other point: well, I have a soft spot for Madonna, because he has to put up with a lot of abuse here. He doesn't always deserve it.

Sometimes I DO deserve it I won't lie. I now know that alot of reasons why some things are fucked up in my life are because of me. I don't blame anyone but me.

I'm ashamed of you Maddy. Out of all your incendiary culture threads to repeat, you pick one of your lesser works about the annoying ass "Hindu" people? Your outrageously offensive thread about blacks being forced to sit in the back of the bus in the year 2008 deserved a proper sequel before this one. I mean the reviews for that one were threw the roof, oh my!

*shakes head* Mm-mm-mm, you're slipping Maddy.

Actually the bus thread could be seen as an educated guess. Being as young as I am, I have not traveled very much. I grew up taking PACE and CTA, which you know are big bus services here in the Chicago area. Growing up as a kid, I noticed when there were white people on the bus, some did sit in the back but preferred to sit in the front. Many Blacks did sit in the front, but the majority BASED ON WHAT "I" witnessed from a short period of my lifespan, the majority of the black riders preferred the back.

This was based on what I had WITNESSED and technically using the information I had seen, i analyzed an improper generalization, but what I said WAS based on fact according to my short 18 years riding public transportation in the Chicago Area.

I wasn't thinking when I posted that and I'm sorry. There are just some things you can't ask, certain sensitive issues which can grasp different emotions from different crowds of people.. no matter how you say it and if its harmless or not.

you sounds so smart Maddona. :)

.... but he's not racist???

I'm not. I'm trying to understand why things are considered stereotypes and why certain things are just a coincidence. I like to study history and discover if something can root back to history. I like to challenge people's minds and seek truth. As for the bus theory... I answered my own question over time and it does date back to racism, lack of resources for minorities such as education housing and employment opportunities. That's my educated guess and opinion.

ok WELL IT doesnt answer the theory for seating position but it is my theory for why the majority of the riders are who they are.
