Getting upset with Tech Support (Accents)

If you're talking about a long-term situation (50 years or so), I don't know if that could qualify as a "verge"; many of us, including me, will be dead by then.

It is about pure numbers. Always has been. And the US is just on the verge of having more people in the country who speak Spanish than English. And numbers rule. Even when it comes to the lingua Franca becoming Spanish over English.

so the schools speaks spanish mostly in that area of the US ?
if no, i don't think spanish will take over.

Anyway, 2 official language is a bad thing.
 
2 official languages is only a bad things for lazy Americans who would rather play Nintendo than learn a foreign language. In some countries, "less developed" (I'm starting to wonder about what we deem "developed") it's standard, hurr in 'Murrica it's a threat to have to learn two languages.

i don't know. Serve 1 master is hard enough.
How about 2 for everything:

2 road signs, 2 text books, 2 NPR radio services, 2 science teachers ... the list goes on and on.
And who is going to pay all that ?
 
I don't think having two languages is a bad thing. BUT all signs and text books should remain in English since that's what the nation was based on. OR some parents can send their kids to private schools which have books in Spanish. I believe in being BILINGUAL friendly though.

Learning a 2nd or 3rd language is fine but not in competition with 1 Official language like in some countries such as:

Canada
Belgium
... and others i don't know. What a mess !!!
 
Bilingualism works just fine in Canada. There is a small group of francophones who want to separate because they feel oppressed. There is a small group of anglophones who want them to go. Every country has a crackpot for something.

For the most part however, we're a bilingual country where everybody wakes up happy to travel under a Canadian passport.

by the way, if one language lead to unity, then why isn't the US still a part of england? bilingual canada is still together.

I think the easiest thing to do is watch a lot of foreign programming.

Not in a foreign language, but English programmes/segments made in foreign countries. Sportscasts too - that way, you get exposed to a lot of different accents and it makes things generally easier.

We have 11 official languages here in .za, incidentally, and I am fluent in only 2 of them and, ironically, Spanish which I taught myself.

Maybe those who get frustrated by the tech supports and their accents could try practicing a little patience. I swear, you may be able to hear them better and it'll probably save you a tumor or two later in life.

If someone is not pronouncing words properly, or just doesn't have the vocab to express their point, then no amount of patience is gonna help.

Plus a lot of these helplines are not free. So you are basically paying to have your time wasted...and blood pressure raised!

I'm very happy for poverty stricken countries like India to be given these jobs. It helps millions there make some kind of living. But it should not be at the expense of good service. They need to be better trained to do the job efficiently. Thats all.
 
Blame the companies and not the employee on the other end. The system stinks, but the person on the other end just has a dificult and unpleasant job of dealing wtih language barriors all day long. You know, he is just doing what he is told to do.
 
I agree, if someone whose answering to speakers of a language that is not their own, it's important that they know the language. However, don't let your frustration and bubbling anger get in the way of the fact you may just not understand it through an accent. I've had plenty of experiences speaking with people who have thick Indian accents over the phone. But that's just it, they aren't mispronouncing words and their limit of the English language wasn't a problem, it was my ear. So I just say, "Pardon?" "I'm sorry?". I'm sure people who work in the service industry overseas have to have a certain amount of knowledge in the language they're speaking, so I doubt that they're limited in their vocabulary. However, it's never been my experience otherwise, so perhaps I'm not right to comment.

But, there is always room for patience, no matter the situation. Perhaps people should take their computer problems less seriously.


I can see your point for having patience. I do have it, until you ask me for my service code on the back of my computer, my email, my number, or name FIVE times because YOU can't understand ME as well. I speak in a clear calm tone. Now I've spoken to people in clear English before, because I could swear when they asked if I want to speak in English, say English. So that's the language I'm expected to speak and listen to. When I talk to people who know English well, The conversation goes fast and smoothly, HARDLY ever had to have something repeated. Issue could be solved in a few minutes. I talk to someone when my calls get outsourced and its a nightmare. It shouldn't take that long to have my issues fixed or questions answered. Also, they don't know alot of the material they are working with sometimes. I ask an American what does this message mean and she can tell me step by step what it means and what I can do about it. I ask someone from India sometimes They need me to repeat it... and they put me on hold for 5 minutes to ask someone or look it up because the damn company didnt train them to know what their doing by heart.

Smart? A 5 year old capable of following step-by-step instructions could put together a computer these days. It's not THAT hard. You just screw stuff into a case, put cards into slots, and plug a few things in. Why does everybody think the process is needlessly complicated?

I know its not too complicated.. and no alot of 5 year olds can't build one. You have to also ground yourself to make sure no static comes in contact with the parts. I believe a GIFTED 5 year old can do it. I think you are somewhat exaggerating.
 
Ok well all these things I'm being told now.. I could've been told then on the phone. I was never told any of these things and i was on the phone for 2 hours with different people. I should get this information from dell not a gay sex forum in a matter of minutes

When I've had trouble with my computer, I also got the help here, not in all the other places I've asked :)
 
I see one central, devastating flaw in your logic.

While of course it is possible for an amateur to build his own computer, who does he go to when his computer develops some kind of trouble? This is what Tech Support is all about, which is what Madonna's thread was about in the first place.

exactly people are just trying to find some fault in my posts again like always. Because the people that find fault in my posts never post in my other topics. They only contribute negative criticism. Its the same people too
