I'm not so sure about the consistency argument. For example, if an otherwise good poster has a bad day and posts something intemperate, should he suffer the same exact penalty as someone who has been gently modded in the past?

The answer has to be no. But "consistency" would dictate that it be done that way. So, I'm not a big consistency fan in that regard. I will tell you that we have a comparatively small number of moderators to deal with the 3 million plus posts here on JUB.

So, we do not, nor could we possibly read each and every post. We look more closely at members who've had issues in the past. Of course we also have brand new members spamming that need to be dealt with as well.

To that end, we look to other members to alert us via post reports, when they see an issue. Please, please, don't be bashful about reporting a problem post! You're not bothering us, but helping us.

....No, that doesn't mean I'm not a Nubian God...|
Well thats my fantasy just flown out the window! ;)

Seriously, when you consider that at any one time there are about 1000 people on the boards, 1000s of posts per hour at peak times, and a maximum of about 6 mods at any one time (due to world time zones), we really can't be everywhere - hence our usual stance of being 'reactive' rather than 'proactive' - so the Post Reports are a great help to us! ..| It can also mean the difference between closing or deleting a thread - if a thread has been allowed to descend into a train wreck, it often can't be salvaged. Better to take preventative measures early, than send it to the scrapyard later.

Ahhh, what would JUB be without AndrewD? He just makes this place lively.
