Rumours of a new Ghostbusters sequel have intensified, after reports executives at Hollywood studio Columbia Pictures have hired two screenwriters to create a third installment of the spooky franchise.

Recent reports suggested bosses at Columbia - the studio behind the first two movies in 1984 and 1989 - were lining up Seth Rogen, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd to join original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson in a new movie.

Daily Variety reported on Friday that Columbia has recruited Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to revive the movie series - which has so far grossed more than $500 million worldwide.

They've let this one hang for far too long now. This should just be put out of its misery.

I love Ghostbusters 2!!! One of my favs.

I don't know about a 3, I think, let it go.

I agree that Bill Murray won't do it. It was like pulling teeth to get him to do the second one. And if he, or Dan Aykroyd wouldn't be a part of it ... it really isn't worth it, in my view.

We all know there is a Ghostbusters Game to be released this Fall, which does have pretty much everyone, but Sigourney Weaver, who didn't want to be part of it, in it as voice actors.

But I wouldn't hold my breath on the rumor, as a whole.

Um the rumours are about the video game...

The new video game is set shortly after the 2nd movie...

All of the actors came back to do voice work for it except Rick Moranis.
