Do you just give gifts for birthdays or Christmas? Or will you give a gift just because you think the gift receiver will like it?

Have you ever bought a gift and hold it until a birthday or Christmas?

I mostly give gifts for Christmas and birthdays, but occasionally for other occasions too. For instance, I've bought work colleagues I'm particularly friendly with gifts to celebrate promotion or retirement. I regularly buy my mum cut flowers and other bits and pieces throughout the year.

I tend to leave gift buying to the last minute. The last time I bought something months in advance must have been many years ago.

We start shopping for the gifts for everyone at least a year ahead. And sometimes we decide we just can't wait for the occasion so we give it to them if they need or could use it earlier or we think they need some cheering up and surprises. Then we get to buy them something else.

I’m kind of sad. A book would cheer me up 😉

Behold...I bring you a whole library... :D

Christmas and birthdays. I have tried to convince the family that we all have more "stuff" than we need and that we should donate whatever amount that we would've spent to cancer research or some other worthwhile endeavor. That fell like a lead balloon.

Both.

BTW, if you see 'Gift Giver' on the profile of a gay person's hookup app, run like Hell.

Myself and 4 siblings are all senior citizens...and our Dad is still alive and pretty much able to live alone. Years ago we quite getting each other gifts...that happened about the time my folks were having great-grandkids. I'm fine with that.

There are a number of charities you can buy something like a cow, for a poor African village - in their name.
That never goes down well. EITHER.

No.

Or will you give a gift just because you think the gift receiver will like it?
Yes, but I don't understand the use of "or" in your question, as it implies gifts given at Christmas or birthdays are not given because we think the recipient will like them.

Have you ever bought a gift and hold it until a birthday or Christmas?
Yes, but rarely. I normally buy gifts all throughout the year and just hold them until an occasion arrives or I'm ready to send by post.
