has yours changed over the years? Like most american kids i was raised on processed snacks and meat drenched in chemicals. And skittles and cheetos.

Once i hit the mid-30s and all the injuries from childhood began catching up, ive started eating somewhat better, and pardon the cliche but the difference in mood, energy levels, et cetera is like night and day.

I dont eat like a rabbit now, but more fresh foods and meals, less red meat and candy swsets and soda/juice are occasional treats instead of daily staples.

Mind you, ive always been active and as a lifelong pedestrian, this body is bangin regardless of diet. Diet/exercise for superficial reasons is cringe as fuck, but for health's sake is ..|

*by diet i mean overall eating trends and habits, not diet as in fad diet that lasts maybe 3 weeks. My mother was the queen of those. :rotflmao:

yup.

I was raised on a diet full of good, nutritious food and of course...post-war processed crap.

I eat like a rabbit now after losing a lot of weight....and I don't really have a sweet tooth.

But I drink my calories in wine, Guinness and vodka, so there's that.

But when we are in the check-out line....we despair to see family shopping carts loaded to overflowing with processed, 'convenience' 'foods', tons of sweet soda drinks and juices, salty snacks and sweet treats.

is it true our stomachs shrink as we age? I dunno if its that or the exponentially increasing portion size of American cuisine, but I just cant eat as much as I used to. Cant remember the last time i finished an entire meal at a restaurant.

I never heard of that, but then again I've never heard of a lot of things.

I began to improve my diet about twenty years ago. It's an ongoing process. Equally important is what I don't eat.

I feel better, sleep better, and I rarely get sick anymore. Not even colds.

I do have a problem with sugar, though. And beef. Beef is the only meat I really like. Worse, I love ground beef: meatloaf, meatballs, BURGERS. My oven broke a couple years ago and I never got it fixed. This way I can't make my amazing meatloaf or bake brownies or any of that.

I'm currently entering eating season. I have barely any appetite in the summer and I am ravenous in the winter. I gain up to ten pounds during the winter months and lose it all in the summer.

die-hard maple bacon fan, but Im intrigued by numerous testimonies from people who gave up red meat and stopped getting sick, which makes more sense than not. My sister turned me on to turkey as a (less un)healthy substitute meat, turkey chilli on turkey dogs is a fav but turkey bacon is trash.

I had to stop bacon. Too much colon cancer in my family.

I think my not getting sick has less to do with eating less meat and more to do with eating plants: broccoli, berries, and especially things like yogurt, mushrooms and raw garlic.

If my elementary understanding of processed meat is correct, the decreased sickness is in part due to the fact that youre not consiming large amounts of parasites anymore. We put way too much faith in the way our food is processed stored delivered and prepared.

A thought that haunts me is learning that when plastic is in the sun too long it can release toxins into the contents, so if walmart or some warehouse has 10 pallets of bottled water sitting outside in the sun for half a day....

And I too feel significantly better consuming plants, maybe its partially psychosomatic but i feep the difference almost immediately after consumption.

As a boy up until the age of 9 we ate fresh cooked food, I had never been to a restaurant. I was very thin. After my dad's death we moved and so did our life styles, we ate at drive in food places and had potato chips and pop all of the time. Stayed skinny though up until the age of 30, then I went from 120 pounds up to 150. Processed food, eating out and a slowing metabolism all played a role in this.

I stay very active at age 69 but gave up on dieting. I do try to eat smaller portions and try to stop eating before I feel "full".

The human body contains over two pounds beneficial microscopic parasites. Processed foods and especially diet sodas upset the balance they create, which leads to all kinds of chronic diseases.

As far as plastic goes, it's not just sitting in the sun that does it. Chemicals from plastics can leach into your food when chilled. And not even; those Poland Spring bottles release tiny strands of plastic that stay in your body forever regardless of temperature. Plastics are one of cancer's best friend. But they also save manufacturers millions of dollars. That's what's important. Clean up the evils of food processing and the pharmaceutical companies will suffer. We can't have that, can we?

I find it amusing that Green Giant sells mixed vegetables they call "Antioxidant Blend". Carrots, broccoli, beans and red peppers all pre- cooked, slathered in chemically modified butter and packaged in a handy plastic pouch. Stick that plastic in the microwave until it's hot enough to give you a third degree burn, eat it, and health-wise you pretty much come out even. What's the point of eating antioxidants when there's no carcinogens in your fatty tissue?

And there may be something to the psychosomatic lift you get from eating well. The mind-body connection is underrated and under researched.

I have to confess that we generally now will only buy organic, untreated produce and fruit and meat which is such a 'woke' thing to do in a supermarket because we don't have local markets handy (bizarre because we live in the country) and I feel no regret at paying the cost...but I feel so guilty that many families of 4 or 5 would never be able to do this.

One tiny little terrible hypocritical irony is that we have a first world farm that produces organic hay and alfalfa...in order to support and supply the consumption of meat, meat, meat.

It is great for the birds, the insects and the wildlife....but what the fuck?
