  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

give me the lowdown on the hijack obsession

honestly? the overall bitch factor around here has been over the top.

it's gotten to the point where the boards are just not fun anymore.

i don't know about anyone else but i find i tend to only join in with members i know or on threads i've had a heavy participation in already.

why it's come to this? how we got here? i don't know myself. all i know is that there is a level of disharmony of late that feels like a heavy fog.

exactly

and its much more noticeable if you have been away

you took a break as well, didnt you?

how about we ask the first and obvious question....

who owns the threads that we start? can we expect personal controll over them?

Every single member of Jub owns the thread!! It comes with membership! So anyone and everyone can control it. Is that clear?!

My threads get hijacked all the time.

Either that or I kill them myself.

Doesn't bother me any. If I want a thread of mine to go back on topic, then I just start talking about the original subject again so it doesn't get totally lost. Or hell, sometimes I'll end up going with the "hijacked" topic instead of my own because it's more fun, lol.

I'm getting the same. In fact I'm starting to feel my silly posts no longer sit comfotable on this board.

herry you are one of my faves....

i still have fond recollections of "42"

ahh that was sublime

now i'm worried.

i for one love your silly posts and i totally enjoy teasing one another...

if you are beginning to feel your posts are no longer comfortable then we do have a problem here.

It's probably because there are so many new members (not that that's a bad thing) that it becomes hard to remember who you can have a laugh with and who's going to take everything far too seriously and get all upset over some trivial post?

I'm guessing that is partly why RL felt so unwelcome here. It certainly seems like a lot of the genuinely funny humour-mongers have backed off recently.

my thoughts exactly...

so the general consensus is that the whole community owns the thread no matter who starts it

that means that they get a certain lattitude on how to behave within it so long as it falls within the TOS and the CoC

on to the next question....

rather than feel ownership of a thread, should we present ourselves as hosts of the threads we create and attempt through humor and conversation to steer the direction of the things?

courteous hosting would imply yelling about hijacking and such to be a bit out of bounds.... silently using the report post button seems much more repectfull to the entire community.,.. remember there are litterally hundreds of people out there who read but never post... that is how they participate... passively

when i cant or dont contribute to a conversation that i have created OR when i do and i create a sour atmosphere as a result of my actions, then is that what a host would do if it had happened in his home?

OH NO... not gain... not another discussion about hijacking! Let's move on to something more interesting and happier and appealing to everyone else! (Heavy sigh!)

In my part of the world they do ..|

Besides, why can the host can´t hijack the hijack of his thread?

hang on buddy

thats where we're heading with this whole thing ;)

+1  :D (*8*)

the threads I tend to "hijack" the most are.......my own! lol If its not a very serious topic I can often get bored with it myself and "hijack" it, or, if someone decides to come in and play I will follow it.

however if my thread is a serious thread, or if members start to harrass one another..........I do bite! (I also PM the MODs)

so i guess the silence means that we all can see that being a host does not include insulting your guests when they dont behave exactly as you had hoped

now maybe we can get a bit of rest from the antics and just go back to treating others as we would like others to treat ourselves?

how about that?
