The show is often contrived, ridiculous, too smug for its own good, and autotuned to death in some circumstances.

It can also be wickedly funny, incredibly touching, cynical, innocent and contain some amazing singing and creative mashups of songs.

Those of us who do love it don't have to love it to relive our high school days. We can love it because of the things we find entertaining in it.

Watching one episode of anything, or five minutes of anything, is not necessarily a good indicator of its overall quality. And while one might not like a show, it's definitely not necessary to criticize those who do.

Well, the movies, unlike the novels, sucks. Even baby shows are more amusing.

Meh. I thought it was light hearted, entertaining, if a little annoying in places. Packed full of clichés with only vague moral referencing so it wasn't too heavy viewing. It's the kind of thing you can just watch and unwind to and not take too seriously. I think that's it's appeal. People can just sit down and watch it and not have to think too hard about what's going on. Kind of like friends but on acid.

My friend likes Glee, and tried to get me to watch it. After 10 minutes I wanted to throw my self off a cliff. God, it's horrible. That show is to gay for even ME! ;)

I have nothing agaisnt Stacy and I fully respect her decision, but this sentence made me think of this :lol:

I know people (LOTR fans) who use this whenever somebody say they like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings equally...like me

Irredeemably bad. Watched almost an entire episode to see what the big deal was. Painful. Very painful. The Gay Kid was the worst, followed by the Lesbian Gym Teacher. The Bad Boy and Cute Guy were OK, and the Unpopular Girl I kind of liked, but what a colossal waste of time! It's actually the only episodal network television I've watched in years. I doubt I'll be back soon.

But it sounds like it could be fun if one could turn it into a drinking game. :D

Not that it matters much to those who won't watch the show ever again, but the gym teacher, played by a lesbian actress, has so far only shown herself to be straight. She had a fling with the local egotistical anchorman.

Some of the shit she says is priceless. Last night when a new teacher dared to laugh at her, she threatened to kick her "in the taco." I could not believe I had just heard that on network tv. lol

Actually, the reviewer on afterelton.com does just that. Whenever something is too contrived or pushes the boundaries of believability too much, he says in his review to "take a shot."

You could do that a lot with Glee.

Take a shot when:

Mr. Shue acts smug and self-righteous
Sue insults his hair
Kurt gesticulates
Santanna glares
Emma cleans something
Someone tells off Rachel
Rachel is annoying (keep multiple bottles handy)
Finn looks confused
Brittany utters a non sequitur
auto-tuning
two songs get mashed up
Mercedes belts it out at the end (although the character has drawn attention to it)
Kurt mentions who he's wearing
"The other Asian" hops out of the background to show his slick dance moves

Call me a "go-for-the-predictable-plotline-formula" schmuck, but I've found some of the story lines on Glee truly poignant, and others Laugh Out Loud - and I could listen to Lea Michele's voice ALL day.

That said, by all means, disparage if you want to disparage. Just use the remote. There's always DWTS, Two and Half Men, and Jerry Springer. I think they all have more viewers than Glee. Good for them.

I also have this sinking feeling that LOST is not gonna deliver in the final episodes.

Ah, you see, in concept that is quite clever. I could get behind something like that, to a point, if I could see the point of them going to all the trouble. Perhaps the writing really just isn't quite up to scratch, or perhaps I'm just a thicky.

But sitting through the one episode I sat through was a bit of an ask (bearing in mind I avoid people singing - X-country's Idol, X-country's got talent, X-factor etc - like the plague), so I don't have the inclination to give it a second go. It's 2nd run here is an awkward timeslot so I'll have to record it and find time to watch it later and really that seems at this point more trouble than it's worth.

In Jasun's defense, I wasn't a fan of the Madonna episode either. It left me feeling sour. I much prefer the episodes with a better balance of music and story.

LOL--oops. But I thought, like in most "kids" shows, that the actors were 20 year olds playing high school kids. I think it's so funny to see actors with wrinkles starting around their eyes, talking about their "problems of their youth".....
