Glee! [merged]

Re: Glee targets gay bullying

*sigh* I love Glee, but I think it's doing too much. It's getting too preachy. And it seems like if they want something dramatic, they always go to Kurt's gay story. Even as a gay, I'm getting tired of it.

I co-sign this.

Re: Glee targets gay bullying

Honestly, I don't understand the carping about Kurt's storyline, like let it die for a bit. Everyone complained during the Will & Grace years that Will never got any and Jack was a caricature.

GLEE is the first network show to do a good job on making outsiders feel not so "outside", and the first to TRULY tackle coming out as gay teen. If nothing else, gay teens can know they are not alone just by watching this show. I think folks will look back years later and realize its importance in shifting understanding - and acceptance - of gays for those who have no idea what that feels like.

It's not a perfect show, but it is a terrific show, partly because of its ambitious social agenda. And yeah, the songs are good, too.

Re: Glee targets gay bullying

I know it's an important issue, but it smacks of the Very Special Episode that sitcoms used to do. ("Tonight, a Very Special Episode of Blossom/Facts of Life/Diff'rent Strokes you should watch with your kids.") It's tricky to do this without being preachy or overbearing.

Re: Glee targets gay bullying

This episode was indeed moved up to be closer to the recent suicides in order to shed more light on the topic of antigay bullying. This is not a "very special episode," considering that it's always been a part of Kurt's journey on the show. In the pilot episode, in the first moments, we see him getting tossed into a dumpster.

Last year the show's major arcs before the first half of the season ended included the two pregnancy storylines. Quinn's continued to be an arc for the rest of season 1. This year, Kurt's story is taking more of a center stage.

It boggles my mind that people are complaining about this character getting too much story time. Yes, I would like to see more of the others, and this season has been hit or miss so far, but the one thing they're doing well is unfolding Kurt's story. It's amazing to see this kind of working being done on a show like this, and Chris C. is doing some incredible work as well.

Re: Glee targets gay bullying

I'm pumped about this episode!! Over all I haven't found this season very good. Maybe this will be a turning point.

Chord Overstreet pisses me off. Corey pisses me of when he talks. I only LOVE Chris Colfer, Matty Morrison, one who plays puck, and asian one. And I like all of the girls accept Rachel and Shu's ex wife.

Well smack my ass and call me Sally--that was a bit of a curveball they threw at us.

I actually really like the Beast moments most of all in this episode. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters! Also love the new Artie/Puck friendship! Reminds me of one of my good friends who is really opposite from me, but we pull a lot from each other.

The gay topic was dealt with in an odd way I feel. You'd think the bully would have stopped after that shocker...

"Teenage Dream" was my fav performance of this season so far.

I knew that bully was gay all along....but I was hoping it wasn't going to be true.

Loving Darren Criss...he's adorable.

The Shu/Beast scene was weird...but sweet.

Everything else I could have done without...I honestly just hate the rest of the cast(Shu is included in this...I hate him almost the most)

Hmm...I was underwhelmed with the Kurt story.

1. The kiss i felt was a violation.

2. There was 2 guys bullying Kurt in this ep. it was just one, made it seem unbalanced. They can at least be consistent.

3. I liked the Biest sub text. Shows that outcasts can treat people in a degrading manner. They forget what it feels like to be different outside their clique.

4. Kurt outing that football player was good cause to get slammed into that locker at the end. C'mon someone just committed suicide because someone decided to out them. Kurt should have had more tact toward someone who is closeted GLBT person. I would have liked the show to explore a tentative scene where Kurt could somehow pull him aside and have a talk.

5. Everyone who went through difficult periods of how they felt about themselves had the support from other members, but the only time Kurt got supported it was about his belief in god and not about his struggle being the only openly gay student.

It was uneven and and the side story was more interesting then the Kurt storyline.

Uh what, Kurt didn't out him? Blaine and Kurt tried to talk with Karofsky but he shot them down.

Re: Glee targets gay bullying

Enjoyed this episode very much. Agree completely with Killjoke, I just do not see this at all as focusing too much on Kurt. Would it be nice to see arcs for the other characters? Yes, and I'm sure their time will come.

I've suspected Karofsky was gay awhile back and even posted about it but I did not expect the kiss with Kurt until I noticed they were both alone in the locker room together
