Trump has been normalizing racism, and it's working

I was just thinking. By any standard, telling someone to "go back where you came from" is pretty darn racist. We have all agreed with this.

Lately, incidents of people telling strangers to go back to where they came from because they were triggered by someone speaking another language have been getting more and more common.

Then Trump officially told 4 congresswoman, 3 were born here and 1 came when she was 12, to go back to where they came from. And now all of a sudden Republicans are making the argument that it's not racism at all.

I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around how this man could make so many otherwise rational people defend the indefensible.

Remember when Trump claimed his inauguration was the most attended ever? Even though we got photographs to prove that that's not true at all, Republicans argued endlessly to defend him.

We as a society has taken a step backward by electing this man.

I'm convinced he will get re-elected next year. Too many idiots casting protest votes.

And even when we had friends from the US visiting....they say that it is so depressing that they don't pay attention.

Which is how you get away with normalizing racism.

Although telling someone to go back where they came from is LITERALLY classified as racism by the government.

Why is it racist? Someone comes here to escape violence and poverty in their homeland, but when they get here all they is how shit everything is. How is that racist? I've sent my own family back to Ukraine when they came here and just bashed everything. Fuck em.

^ Besides the toxic racists and the opportunists who are perfectly happy to stand behind Trump.....there are all of those who think that they have no choice but to hitch themselves to him....much like the complicit followers of any strongman dictator. They know that if he falls, they likely fall.

But at least Congress is on the record with a formal censure of Trump. It will be part of his legacy forever.

And that is something.

That's true. I thank the four Republicans and ex-Republican, now independent Michigan Rep. Justin Amash for doing the right thing and standing with the Democratic majority on the censure. But I don't think Trump has any shame... he just rails at the Democrats and whips his people into a frenzy and has almost everyone in the Republican congressional delegation equivocating, approving, or silent. This absolute hack, this PT Barnum of a president who has a zero legacy of credibility and standing... there is a CNN article in its website, about how Trump has finally broken Washington. Republicans trying to turn the session into a censure of Nancy Pelosi for arcane breaking House rules... fuck the House rules when you can't actually call someone a liar, criminal who most certainly is.. cannot personally call people out on their behavior and have to tip toe around niceties and decorum. The British House of Commons allows worse, for goodness sake.. and they're supposed to be all about stiff upper lip and decorum. What happened on the record yesterday is but the beginning.. it's going to get darker and uglier going into 2020... who knows what will actually be left standing of our institutions, what can be reparable. If Trump wins in 2020 somehow, God damn America... strike that.. we will have damned ourselves and our future generations.

It will only go downhill from here, unfortunately. I've seen a number of people with the best of intentions and a lot of common sense say we will get over what Trumpism has done to this country and our institutions. But the more I see the deeper my belief that we are on the path to tearing ourselves apart as a nation.... conservative vs liberal, Democrat vs Republican, Democrat mainstream moderate/liberal vs progressive/left leaning Dems.... Americans vs Americans. I really hope I'm wrong and we can rise above this but I just don't see it as of today.

This is such bullshit.

In the US, ACA is the law. Homo marriage is the law. Abortion rights are enshrined in law.

So why don't all the batshit conservatives shut up about those things? All they do is complain and work to undo them.

Maybe they should leave if they don't like the way things are.

And it is not surprising that you have bought into Trump's narrative. These lawmakers are not shitting on everything. It is their job to work in Washington to make things better for everyone....not just the 1% of the 1% that Trump and the GOP are working for.

And by the way Mikey....the US was literally founded by people who came to the continent and shit all over everything their government was doing.

So yeah. When it comes to telling a citizen of the US who arrived here when she was 10...and who is working to improve things for the middle class and the poor that she should go back to where she came from....yeah. That's racist.

Because you don't hear Trump telling Bernie Sanders that he should go back to where he came from and he is delivering the exact same message.

This is exactly what I see and fear. Now I see this morning in the Hill discussions by the Democrats to end the filibuster. Slowly bit by bit, we are tearing apart all the mechanisms to restrain our government while at the same time our two-party system as currently structured is pushing our representation towards the extremes and away from the moderate center.

Right now I see Biden as a best chance moderate, and no far left candidate has any chance. Independent and "swing voters" will flee from any candidate that's too far left.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The far left wing of the Democrat party has forgotten that they need the middle of the road moderate voters to win a national election. At this point I will be voting for Biden in the primary unless a better alternative comes along in the meanwhile.

No he is getting a lot of help from the vast majority of Americans.

The rich are keeping quiet because they are on a roll grabbing everything they can before the crash, 42% of the country is just as racist as he is and always have been and then there are all of those who are the victims of racism and have no real voice to fight back as the courts continue to restrict their voting rights....the actual number of people making noise in the US is so small as to be easily silenced.

If one is offended because people see a fascist rally where there is one, that strips away one's pretense doesn't it.
