  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

God didn't save you, the doctor did!

Of course it's impossible for people to thank both.

Tbh, sometimes I don't want to thank both, when a person has an infection appear on a lower part of their leg and the Dr. puts them on a round of antibiotics only to find that they didn't work, then tries another and they don't work so he is ready to try another type
and I finally in a humble way ask if the persons immune system might be impaired by some medication that they take and he looks at the chart and says, don't take ".........." any more and the infection goes away I owe him no thanks, he still charges me though.

When someone has been born with cerebral palsy and then 60 years later has a stroke and you have explained to a neurologist what the patients base line was prior to the stroke, that she was able to drive a car, cook meals and even cut the grass and helped me remodel a home and the neurologist insists that the paralysis on the right side of her body is from the C.P. and not the stroke that occurred on the left side of the patients brain they don't get a thank you from me, they hear "you are fired".

I have had some fine Doctors take care of myself and my family over the years, they always hear a thank you, so does God.
When I deal with some like I described above I just thank God that we survived.

Yes, this is the premise for gratitude to human professionals, not incompetence.

(But there could be some interesting theological discussion about thanking god for his incompetence.)

The worst is when I say to someone, "How are you" and they reply with "I'm blessed".... Can't stand that..

And what do you say to surgeons who say a prayer before they do surgery or tell their patients that it was a miracle that they survived because docs themselves gave up? People can appreciate their docs work and also feel the need for spirituality which helps them stay motivated and comforted.

People who thank god in public should be shamed and make fun off.

Well, who made you sick/ill/injured in the first place, then?

-d-

It IS [STRIKE]a tad[/STRIKE] very selective....

If "God" made you well...then "God" must have made you sick too.

Fair is fair.

My problem with it..we all know "God" is busy helping folks win football games and grammy awards..he simply doesn't have time for much else

Or God didn't make the person sick or well and said person is only praying for thanks? Again, I don't understand why people have a problem with this when it doesn't affect anyone outside of the prayer. It makes some people comfortable. It doesn't make anyone better if you find it silly or dumb.

They forget that this wonderful all powerful thing created us in his image but did not makes us perfect as they care to believe it is, If they have cancer Thank God it did it lol Atheist and proud!

I agree. Sometimes I wonder if these people are serious; I mean, deep down inside they have to realize it's all bullshit. How often do you see a religious person jumping off a building and expecting God to catch them? Well that actually happens from time to time, but the average theist wouldn't do it.
