This CAN'T be a good idea.

Microsoft set to open its own retail stores!

SEATTLE (AP) -- Microsoft Corp. on Thursday announced plans to open its own stores despite the economic downturn that has left many retailers struggling.
The company hired David Porter, a 25-year veteran of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., as its corporate vice president of retail stores. Porter was head of worldwide product distribution at DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. since 2007.

I'm seeing visions of an incredibly bad combination of 7-11 and KMart. :(

wtf are they going to sell? Nobody wants a zune or vista. Windows 7 might be good, but together with Office and input devices, why do they need a whole dedicated store? Do people really need customer service experts to help them decide what mouse, keyboard, or office product to get?

i hope the sales people are well schooled in anger management. anger of the customers that is ;)

Well, they could sell software, zunes, anyone buying these?, and xboxes...thats it. Stores would be very small.

Don't see the profit in doing this since retail is struggling, and there is not much to sell.

Their products are everywhere, so I do not see the benefit. Guess they know something we don't?

Worked real well for Gateway didn't it?

Apple stores aren't doing bad but they have real hardware products to sell.

I hear that each time an item is scanned at the checkout, their cash registers will flash a warning message "Are you sure you want to purchase this?"

I want a Zune, I love Vista, and Windows 7's taskbar is better than a Macdock (where previous taskbars weren't), and Office is better and more powerful than any word processor on the market (excusing powerpoint to the superior Apple client)

Although, I agree a store doesnt make a whole lot of sense. But I am sure it will soon. You gotta remember, Microsoft makes a lot of different shit, including car toys

A buddy of mine suggested they include a Pharmacy department so Windows users can get their anti-depressant prescriptions filled.

Prozac for the masses!
