I'm turning 21 soon (YAY!) but have no idea where is a good place to go celebrate (aka getting shitfaced)

I need help from fellow Portlander jubbers. Do you guys know of any good bars/clubs? they don't have to be gay bars.

Thanks for your help :)

^^^ about 5 people but they're all straight or in the closet lol :/ silverado's is the last of my option right now. So hard to make everyone happy

You got a designated, right? Or taxis? Or a sturdy pair of limbs?

I think a little bar hopping is in order.

If you want to have a well-crafted cocktail, and be adult about it you can start at Teardrop Lounge in the Pearl. If you want to begin well, this joint is in the upper echelons for the whole west coast. Don't be afraid to ask questions, the cocktail list is very sophisticated. Clyde Common on downtown Stark Street is a restaurant with another upscale bar; the head bartender there is named Jefferey Morganthaler, google him if you want to be geeky about it. (You can also feign inebriation from this point to branch out to some other nearby liquor holes, wink wink.)

My third upper end joint just opened, Beaker and Flask. It's on the other side of the river on around 8th. You'll have good bar snacks here, too. I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but the word is good.

But being young you may not be interested in upscale. Or lower budget, I certainly was at 21.

So then, Crush is a great joint. It's gay, but the sort of gay that's like neighborhood-come-one-come-all gay, not helicoptering cocks gay. I think straight people even go there. ;) On like 14th and Belmont, I want to say. Too bad there aren't more places like this around.

If you want to fertilize your white sunglasses side, my friend you are in the right town. Throw a stone. Pick a neighborhood. The Florida Room? The Know? The Nest? Crow Bar? That lame milk bar on Mississippi? C-Bar? Bar of the Gods? The Maiden? Plan B? God, there's a million of these sorts. You have lots of options at this level. What's the target neighborhood?

Are you speaking another language? LOL. Sorry. I'm having dinner with a small group of friends at the Greek Cuisina on 4th and washington. And I'm assuming we will be walking. I guess I should google your list and see where they are lol :)

I do like Crush, I know the owners and they are always sweet and very pleasant to me. Crush is the gay bar that straight people actually love. It's great for all day Tuesday Happy Hour.

I prefer The Crow Bar, The Driftwood Inn, Elephants Deli in NW, Mississippi Station, Por Que No for the best sangaria (and fish tacos) ever! I like the Ringside for late night happy hour, other cool places are the Sapphire Hotel, The B Side, The Standard, Chen Yen, Belluah Land is hot too!!!

I love Portland!!!

The gay bars are not so hot, I'd skip Silverados, too. Even the Greek Cuisina is a bit cheesy. :)-

OOh sounds promising. I will definitely search them up. My friend told me about this place called Scandals. Do you know of it? Is it good?

Thanks a bunch.

Oh god please don't go to the Greek Cuisina. It's wretched. In the very least, google their health department scores which are right down there in the toilet. Blech. If you're set on Greek food head over to Alexis on Burnside. It's not brilliant, but reasonable. Nice people and lots of ouzo. I don't suggest starting the night out with ouzo, though.

Seconding StationToStation's Ringside bar suggestion. It's straddling the line these days between nostalgia and decrepitude, but a martini will fix that. A bit of a walk up to NW 21st, but the lounge is good times.

Shanghai Tunnel (divey hipster) is in that area. Let's see, also XV (downtown hipster), Saucebox (asian yupscale), Valentines (pure hipster), Berbati's Pan (music venue), Tube (feh, bridge and tunnel). Ground Kontrol for beer and pinball.

Scandal's is like Silverado's sibling.

So many places to choose from. Maybe I should try them all out lol..

Scandal's being silverado's sibling...is that a good thing or a bad thing?

If your straight friends are going -- I'd recommend Scooters at Washington and 13th -- It should be a LOT OF FUN!!!

And WHY hasn't NINEOFCLUBS chimed in yet???

:):):)

Thx swerve...another one to add to the list. I will have to walk around downtown this weekend and check them all out lol. I'm not sure...maybe nineofclubs just doesn't party. :P

Ok, my 2 cents.

I don't think Scandals and Silverado are even distant cousins. Scandals since it relocated is a quiet, but busy, lounge-type bar, where the drinks are quite good. Silverado, when there are no stripping boys, is more of a dive, alkie bar. Don't get me wrong, you can have a lot of fun there, but I wouldn't take five straight friends.

I second, or third, the Crush recommendation. I worked there myself for about two years, and can definitely say your friends would like it. It gets a diverse crowd, the food is very good, some of the DJ's are fantastic.

For a young crowd, I'm with zoltanspawn and his pick of Ground Kontrol, great fun!

Well champ. Now you're a man. How'd it go? Where'd you go? What'd you drink?

Roman shower any hotties?

Really? It's over....

Darn, I was gonna come back and suggest a lot of bar hopping. Spread the wealth and all that. Sample a bit of e erything.

Anyway, how did it go? Where did you end up?

You can still do that.

Our hero may still be swooning, anyway. ;)

I didn't mean bar hopping with me, and my friends.

I meant that he should just sample as many places as possible, or at least until he and his friends found one where they were all comfortable.

I didn't mean you were extending invitations.

I meant you could still make bar suggestions.

^Yet you made it seem as if his excursion was over.

Just don't get it....

lol no. I thought my little thread probably got bumped down to jub pit hole so I didn't bother to check. My birthday is next tuesday so I haven't gone to any of the bars yet. I'm thinking of walking around downtown this weekend maybe take a look from the outside to see what some of these bars look like.

I'll suggest some of these bars to my friends. Definitely thinking of checking out Scandals and Crush. Then straight bars somewhere.....

Next Tuesday?

I thought last night tuesday....
