Okay, so I need to learn how to do a British accent fast, so I figure why not pick it up while watching something entertaining?

What are you guys' favorite shows with British characters? I heard of Hollyoaks. Should I seek that?

as odd as it sounds i needed to do this as well. i wouldn't advise watching scripted television. i recommend watching big brother uk. you learn common dialogue and slang that you wouldn't get from a scripted show. it's not just the accent you need vocab as well. that's what i did and people were very impressed.

What type of British accent? There are many.

Received English (the posh accent): watch historical costume dramas. (Masterpiece Theater on PBS is showing a lot of Jane Austin teledramas right now.)

Cockney (east London): watch Eastenders.

Welsh:rent How Green Was My Valley

There are also several Midlands and Northern accents.

Absolutely Fabulous
Little Britain
As Time Goes By
Coupling
Rome-British actors were used and their accents pretty much set their social status on the show.

With movies anything with Kiera Knightly

If you have BBC America, watch Catherine Tate. She's on every Friday at 9.40PM and is not only hilarious, but does a large variety of British accents and characters.

What's a "British accent"? (Britain also includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland!)

^^He almost certainly meant "English" accent.

And I suspect he means the received/posh accent.
