Goodbye Encyclopaedia Britannica

Very sad to see this hallmark publication join dinosaurs and rumble seats in the dusts of time. On the other hand, I can't imagine more than a few hundred (or perhaps 1,000)copies being bought worldwide anymore.

With the smaller print runs, the price has probably reached well into the Thousands, which creates a lethal death-spiral that causes the sales to fall even more, causing the price to rise even higher.

My point is that they are using Britain's solid reputation of temperate thoroughness to sell an American product.

And what a stupid and menaingless point it is too.

But thanks for sharing.

Have to say like photo albums,I like the hard copies.

it's not Britannica as in Britain, it's as in Britannica, Indiana, where it is headquartered.......

The company is in fact headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

LOL.

I don't know what it is with me. I have 4 years-worth of photos on my laptop I want to print out, so I have the hard copy, but I haven't yet.

With books, however, I do like flipping through the pages, making notes, using those sticky notes to mark what's important. I rarely used Britannica. I think my parents got a set before...I used to just skim through it as a kid. I think they gave them away, though.

I have the 2005 set.
