  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Goodbye threads

*searches for bowing smilie*

Nope, not here.

But seriously, babe, do you think you might be making a mountain out of an ant hill?

Absolutely not

To some this is an important trend that it would be nice to stop.

Why is it so hard to take some threads seriously, maybe not to you, but to others it is.

i honestly think we need to have the "ON TOPIC" thread marker used in CE&P imported throughout.

the marker will be a clear indicator when someone wants to discuss any given topic or seek advice without the fun banter.

And it isn't our place to tell anyone what is right for them. If this is where they choose to get their interaction then they have a right to do so. Who are we to judge them for that?
Some would feel that argument can be used for both sides of the coin.

And if someone decides to be flighty in a "serious" thread, then...what? Chastize them soundly? Issue some points? Ban them for a week?

Whatever these people's rationales for leaving, I don't think they're of a piece. Pianist's reasons for deleting his account are most likely not the same ones as Ruby's were for doing likewise. And without some pretty hard evidence - to wit, quotes from those involved - it's ludicrous to paint them all with the same brush. You can attribute any reason you wish, or say "It's clear people are leaving because..." and look for patterns if you want. But without evidence, it seems kinda pointless. Maybe they all decided to leave because that fucking gargoyle who thinks he knows everything posted 20,000 times.

Here, here! - and I'm here to remove the rancid skin of 'Politcal Correctness' that had formed above the once-bubbly, thriving JUB that I joined all those years ago when I was underaged.

So, any Newbies I can bully?

WB Noni.

What have I been missing?

Everybody just kiss and make up.

>>>No one is painting anyone or anything with the same brush. The simple fact of the matter is something is wrong here and those of us who feel it too are speaking about it

Actually, you are. You're saying "these people have left, and there must be a rationale behind them leaving". As if all six (or eight, or ten) of them have precisely the same reasons for leaving.

I personally haven't noticed much change here. Yes, there's been a bit more snippiness as of late - maybe it's the US heatwave. But I don't think there's a cancer growing in JUB, and it's up to us to eradicate it. Some people have left our community. And they have chosen to do so without informing us as to why. That's their call. If they did so because of a problem here at JUB, they could've addressed the board in general, their JUB-friends in private, or the mods about it. But they didn't, so we don't know. If they're gone, then they're gone. Their absence may change the dynamic of the board a bit, and may change your feelings about it, but it remains what it's always been.

And sorry about your penis, Noni.

Actually Stacy and Shrub, I think you are the example of why people are leaving at an alarming rate. This board is getting too serious and too boring.

I created a very light hearted thread, several actually, that just descended into blatant racism and being offended over nothing. People are starting to complain about complete non-problems, and putting down people who are trying to cheer others up.

If you had bothered to read Nonimous' first post in this thread, it was obvious he was joking about bullying people. He took the tone of the first post and tried to make people laugh, but you could not just let it stand at that.

I think it is time JUB got back to what it used to be. People with problems, people who want to have some laughs, and people stop being so politically correct and serious. Why are funny threads turning serious? This last week alone I have seen happy threads turn serious. It is enough to make anyone leave.

For those of us who have been here longer than a year or two we've all seen this before. A few high profile members decide to leave around the same time for their own individual reasons, and then all of a sudden it's perceived that there's a cancer here at JUB and something needs to be fixed. It's happened on more than one occasion in the past, and I'm sure this won't be the last time, either.

Bottom line is, JUB is what you make of it. You can choose to stay and be a part of the community, and with that comes the fun, sillyness, back-slapping, laughter, tears, encouragement and hope as well as the sniping, bitching, complaining, yelling, screaming and heated arguments. It happens, just as it does in real life.

What has continued to elude me is why people take this place so seriously. The Internet is a bunch of pixels neatly arranged on a screen. If you don't like what someone says you have the option of ignoring it or responding to it. Should you choose to respond then don't be surprised at a retaliatory response not only from the OP but from others as well.

When people post threads asking for opinions on pics or certain situations don't be surprised to find posts saying they don't like the pics or disagree with what you've said. The notion that we all have to agree with the OP or like what we see is ridiculous. You've solicited an opinion, be prepared to not like what you see in return. If not, then don't bother posting.

I have had passing thoughts of leaving JUB several times myself but ultimately stay because this is a unique forum where at the end of the day, differing ideas and beliefs converge. If you leave here because of negativity from some posters, well, I shudder to think how you deal with it in the real world.

There's a slight disturbance in The Force going on right now at JUB, no doubt about it.

Why, exactly ? I have no idea. I've seen it here before, I'm sure it will pass.

The bottom line for me is even though JUB may look like just another message board, it is a lot more than that to a lot of people, myself included.

Strange as it is to say, JUB is an important part of my life. I know many of you reading this feel the same way. And when something is important to a person, it can potentially be a source of pain and disappointment as well. Especially to folks that are sensitive and maybe tend to lean toward the tempormental and a little bit bitchy side. That is to say, gay men.

Let's face it folks, we tend to get our feelings hurt a little more easily than our straight male counterparts.

I know I'm painting with broad strokes here, and not everyone falls into that category. But, IMO more do than not, I think that's what happens here from time to time.

Two of the people that left were two of my fav posters here.

I can only hope when wounds are healed they will come back.

I've read over the comments, Stace, and I just don't see it. I don't believe things have spiralled downhill. And even if I accept that it has, what then? A plea for calmer heads to prevail? A few PMs asking people to play nicer?

If there's one thing I've found - not just on this board, or on boards in general, but in life - it's that everything was a lot better before. Because it's in the past, and we can look back fondly on the positive things that are gone, and either blur out or ignore completely the negatives from that period. I have people saying the company I work for was so much better three years ago. Three years ago, people were saying precisely the same thing.

I honestly haven't seen much difference in JUB-of-a-month-ago and JUB today, this thread notwithstanding.

^ That's true, too. ^

I got to thinking that it wasn't that long ago when arguably the two most popular posters here both left at the very same time. (Must I mention names ? ;))

That was a 'wow ! holy fuck !' moment for me, and I actually felt sad about it for several days. (I'm lame, I know)

But, I'm happy to say that both of those folks are back with us, albeit in limited fashion when compared with before...

Still, it goes to show that things ebb and flow here, and what's one way today isn't necessarily the....aww hell, you get my drift.
